unfortunately it's not. it can only be set by shaw

if a technician is installing the modem for you, just be sure to let him to know what you want the modem to be set to

!MiKrofT 11-27-2011 01:44 PM

Yeah Bridge mode can only be done by shaw remotely. I don't think the onsite tech can do it for you unless you pre-request it from the setup call so they flash it beforehand. It was kinda funny how I got mine into bridge. Instead of sitting on the phone waiting forever I simply opened an online chat with subject: Would like to change my Cisco DPC3825 to bridge mode. 10min. later a rep came on and said she was bringing up my account. All of a sudden my modem rebooted and I thought shit I got disconnected but nope. Low and behold my cisco was now in bridge and assigning an external IP to my dlink.

You might be getting the Cisco as they just recently got stock of these. I was lucky and got one.

Yeah she didn't say anything. It just happened. Oh well I'm glad it was that easy as i've read where others have had problems.

They just mailed me the Cisco modem. I had to have it activated and did so over online chat. It was samething, one sec I'll activate that for you....then you've been disconnected trying to reconnect. When they activate the Cisco modem it deactivates the other one so I lost connection no warning or anything.

My DL speed is the same but my UL speed is terrible with the new modem/router.

!MiKrofT 12-02-2011 01:39 PM

Hmm I never really tested upload speed since I don't really upload stuff lol.

k2_alpha 12-08-2011 04:09 PM

Been awhile now, any new feed back on the Cisco router?
I'm picking one up on Saturday
want to know what Im getting myself into

quasi 12-09-2011 08:38 AM

For me my upload has been really bad about 1/4 of what it was when I run speedtests, my download is the same as extreme. The built in router does have better range then my other router so my connection upstairs is better.

^Where are you picking yours up from?

I have an appointment today with the installer today setting up my broadband 50.
Over the phone I have requested them to give me the Cisco modem. They said they can't guarantee though.

!MiKrofT 12-09-2011 09:50 AM

They should have a lot of Cisco modems since I recall someone here mentioning they just received their shipment.

My Broadband 50 has always been able to download at close to 50mbps regardless of time or day.

joquio 12-09-2011 10:00 AM

woot! looking forward to 50Mbps speed!!!
Shaw really suck at keeping their existing customers.
They only offer discounts for new customers.
Really would liked to keep my previous plan, $10 for Extreme for a year.

Well they sure want to keep me lol. $15 for Broadband 50 for a year. This is my 2nd retention plan.

WHAT THE FUCK!!!!
How you manage that?!?!?!?

Do you have any other service with them? TV? Phone?

Yeah I'm curious about how you got that retention plan?

Best I did was get a friend to help me switch over to a student plan which is simply Personal TV + shaw extreme 25Mbps for I think ~$50 after taxes

The downside was having to switch back to a docsis 2.0 router and return my Broadband 50 router (Motorola SB6120).

From this thread it seems like they are now using the Cisco router instead of the godawful SMC for BB50. That's something to look forward to when I eventually switch back after the student plan expires.

When they called me I had Extreme and basic cable for $29.95 for a year. Just recently they called and offered me broadband 50 and homephone for $30 a year. Essentially $15 per service. I've since cancelled my cable. I think I posted this earlier in this thread.

That's news to me as it required software to be pushed to the modem remotely from shaw.

TOPEC 12-10-2011 01:23 PM

ok nm, they just told me to reset the modem when i get home, they already bridged it for me before i pick it up

heres how it looks right now with a direct modem connection

Got my broadband 50 about a month ago.

ShadowBun 12-10-2011 01:43 PM

fuuuu must.. get.. broadband after done finals...

TOPEC 12-10-2011 02:12 PM

heres my results for wireless connection, i guess my router is all set up and ready to go

unfortunately, in the process of swaping my modem i knocked over my router and it fell to the ground antenna first, so now one of the antenna screw is very loose, hope this doesnt affect anything, so far all seems good

k2_alpha 12-10-2011 05:49 PM

I have been getting good speed.
but my wireless router burnt out the moment I connected the modem to it... fml...

TOPEC 12-10-2011 09:35 PM

question, does BB50 get power boost like the extreme/hispeed tiers, or is it straight up 50Mbps?

!MiKrofT 12-10-2011 10:12 PM

According to shaw's website. However at 50mbps who cares lol.

What is PowerBoost™?

PowerBoost™ is a five- to 20-second burst of download speed.

We temporarily increase your available bandwidth when you're downloading files.

PowerBoost is available with Shaw Internet's High-Speed and Extreme service plans.
