School me on Shaw internet and HD TV packages I am a total noob when it comes to getting the best bang for the buck for Shaw services. Totally different when it comes to Rogers Wireless ;) Paying $125 + tax right now. Currently my household is using internet and SD TV. 2 TVs. 4 people sharing internet (2 heavy users, 2 light users). Sticking with Telus for home phone. Other requirements: -Movie Central -Rogers Sportsnet -PVR would be nice Is the Gateway thing better? Or is the old packages better? |
personal tv/bb50 = 84.90 movie central = $17 sports 1 = $10 gateway+1 portal = $14 or classic cable w/basic hd = $64.95 you get sportsnet1 in SD (HD only available if you have HD+) movie central $17 PVR $6 for dcx3200 or $14 for gateway/portal optional HD+ = $16 (50% off first 2 months) |
dont mean to thread jack but im also tempted to switch from telus 15mbps i got quite a few people in the house so it really slows down when everyone's streaming/downloading/gaming, only stuck out with telus for so long because it's somewhat consistent and no bandwidth einforcement i used to be with shaw but i dont know how much has changed...would probably go with 25mbps Extreme or 50mbps Broadband - slower during the evenings/peak hours? - throttling p2p? - bandwidth cap heavily enforced? - does it slow down when everyone in the house is on? |
Do you have any students in the household? If you do, you can get almost 50% off what you're paying right now. |

im with shaw for all 3 services and my 1 yr "retention-like" deal just expired. shaw will NOT renew these deals as they feel that their service is good enough to keep customers. (which is a crock of shit, if you ask me) the only reason why im staying with shaw at the moment is because i own my HD PVR equipment and since they are still fine, i dont really want to go to telus and sign a contract just for equipment rentals. shaw came and installed my BB50 modem yesterday, and honestly, my speeds are exactly the same as when i had extreme. |
bell has more hd channels, seems whenever a new station/hd variant appears Bell will get it months-year earlier than shaw. Id go withthem its just that they weren't available in the boonies Posted via RS Mobile |
have questions/want to switch or upgrade? dont want to call and wait? pm me |

My family used to pay around 150 + tax for the phone, internet, tv and now we're paying around $80 taxes in. It's $19 for phone, $29 for extreme internet, and the rest is for tv. We have the one above basic plus all of the high definition channels except for the movie channels. You can get these packages over the phone now and all you'll have to do is email them your student id. The other way is to go down to their Cordova office in downtown. Bring your student ID + full time schedule, and they'll update the account information and they'll help set you up with the student deals. Only catch is you have to do this once a year while you're a student. |
i talked to 4 different reps everyone says I cant have student deal based on my package I have the exactly same thing as the above and they wouldnt give it to me Im storming to Cordova tomorrow |

im a long time customer wth shaw |
Deal is done.. did this all through twitter... basically Digital TV or Digital Classic tv goes form 64.95 to 34.95 Shaw EXTREME becomes 22.95 any add ons are regular price Im very disappointed at how the phone CSRs can't help me... and that I have to go through twitter to get it done... |
yep, I told my CSR I was a pro video game player and can't stand the throttled internet during peak times. Got bumped up to 50mb. |
^for free? |
BASIC TV - 38.95 BROADBAND 50 - 59.00 MOVIE CENTRAL - 17.00 HD SPORTS - 10.00 = $124.95 HD PVR I suggest just buy one, they're current $198. If you want to pay monthly towards owning one Shaw will add $10 per month until you've paid it in full, no interest, its called the EasyPay option. |
full time only? :fuuuuu: |
full time is 3-5 courses depending on where you are attending edit: holy eff.. enough pm's revscene. |
