Borrow money from other countries, can't pay back. Leech more off them to pay off debts that US owes them. :troll:

Well, at least this won't apply to those of us who drive down.

non-stop flights it is where i can help it

or fly from bellingham

no biggie; they're broke and need the money if they didnt think it would affect land crossings adversely you could be sure it would be taxed as well
makes sense for them

JordanLee 10-26-2011 02:44 AM

It's not going to stop you from going into the states and they're going to make a killing from it. Small loss but big gains.

Vale46Rossi 10-26-2011 05:11 AM

Fucking stupid Americans.

I fly to Vegas at least 3-4 times a year.

Not much money but I think it's fucking stupid.

melloman 10-26-2011 07:25 AM

Well I figure we should fight back..

Get the Canadian gov't to charge any US citizen $5.50 for coming into Canada..
Obviously we won't get as much money as they will, but it will fuck them over just as they're doing to us.

Durrann 10-26-2011 07:42 AM

even though $5 aint that much take everything else into consideration and it does add up

No what we should do actually is propose charging anyone leaving Canada and entering USA $X (50$?)

and then offer the US a compromise "we'll remove our tax if you remove yours"

you can bet the US will drop their tax asap

Tapioca 10-26-2011 08:20 AM

Less than a quarter of Americans hold passports. They're not coming to Canada anyway, so if we apply a tax of our own, nothing will happen because no Americans will cry about it at the end of the day.

What Canada should do is start charging all tax/duty on merchandise being brought back, and charge a $5 entry fee to pay for the additional agents required to do this. This would stop many cross border shoppers, and perhaps even reduce wait times at the border.

I know I shop/ship stuff to the US cause there's little chance I'll have to pay taxes/duty when I come back.

a lot of americans come up to canada to take advantage of our benefits that they don't have down there (ie. cheaper prescription drugs)

It's a proven fact the prescription drugs are a lot cheaper in the US. I know a number of people that go down there to grab stuff cause it's that much cheaper.

InvisibleSoul 10-26-2011 10:13 AM

Yeah, it sucks... but this issue is probably just going to fade away, because the additional $5.50 will just be built into the cost of buying the plane ticket, so it'll be hard to notice.

tiger_handheld 10-26-2011 11:07 AM

last time i checked, no one took the ferry or plane to shop in bellingham or the outlets ...

if you are dropping $700 on a flight to NY , 705.50 will hardly be an issue unless you are part of the 99%.

hmm I think if we did that it would hurt us more XD...
Canada is relatively small comparing to the US, also the hit we had not to long ago with the currency and all... I still can notice there isn't as many American tourist running around. Slapping on extra fees will just make fewer Americans come up to spend money.. :(
some tricky businesses that could make us more money but at the same time hurt our local businessesssss :concentrate:
