It said it knows of police officers, journalists, taxi drivers and others working with the Zetas.

The video refers to an unidentified person abducted in the coastal city of Veracruz and says: "You have made a great mistake by taking one of us. Free him."

"We cannot defend ourselves with weapons, but we can with their cars, houses, bars," the message adds, apparently alluding to properties owned by cartel supporters. "It's not difficult. We know who they are and where they are are.

"Information is free," it says. "We do not forgive. We do not forget."

An official with the Veracruz state attorney general's office, who could not be named because he was not authorized to speak on the record, said the office could not confirm video's authenticity or the case of the abduction.

Veracruz, an oil state on the Gulf of Mexico with a major port of the same name, has seen a spike in drug violence in recent months in what authorities say is a battle between the Zetas drug cartel, which has controlled the territory for at least a year, and its rivals. Dozens of bodies have been showing up in recent weeks, including the dumping of 35 last month on a main highway in rush-hour traffic in the city of Boca del Rio.

Two other internet postings since July have announced the arrival of group that calls itself the "Mata Zetas," or Zeta Killers, who authorities say are likely aligned with the powerful Sinaloa Cartel. Others have raised questions about whether the group's members are vigilantes or other rogue bands taking justice into their own hands against the Zetas.

The new message, presented by someone wearing a theatre mask that is a trademark of Anonymous, was reportedly uploaded to websites early this month, but was first reported Friday on the website of the global intelligence think-tank Stratfor.

Stratfor, in its analysis of the video, said anyone exposed by Anonymous as a Zetas collaborator — accurately or not — would be targeted by rival gangs, and the Zetas could respond by attacking internet activists even if they are not affiliated with Anonymous.

Three people have been killed recently in the northern states of Nuevo Leon and Tamaulipas by suspected Zetas who apparently believed the victims used the internet to spread information about the gang.

Definately going to watch the news come Saturday morning. This could be very interesting.

It is not a crime to be associated with them. How do you think it's going to stand up in court when you burn down some guys house cuz the internet hacker group told u he was guilty?

If they've been outted, do you think anyone is going to act as a witness to help the accused drug cartel associate? Thus do you think any retaliation against drug cartel associates will actually make it to court?

or just the simple community ignoring them. How would you like to be the son of an accused drug cartel associate who everyone at school ignores? You cannot get a date, a job, onto a sports team, ...

Anon gonna get fucked up real bad. Unlike the police, they don't follow the rules. I don't think these nerds understand who they're messing with. What if the cartel offers up $5 million in cash to anyone with information on Anon members? Do people think that nobody within Anon would ever roll on another for that kind of money? When you're completely ruthless there are literally hundreds of options you have for any type of situation like this.

If you out a criminal organizations "legal" partner.. most likely they'll either stop using said partner or kill him so he can't devuldge information. Either way they lose someone who is helping them. Win for us.

While I loathe organized crime, and that they should be rid of. I feel that these hackers haven't really thought this through. Yes while they may be able to gather/publish and disrupt the flow of information in regards to these drug cartels, what then. Maybe a few arrests, some community backlash.

However, the Zetas are known to be ruthless and cold calculating killers. If backed into any sort of corner what would they lash out against. I can see two potential responses from the Zetas.

1) They utilize their own digital resources to dig and attempt to find the hackers, and mete out their revenge.
2) They lash out against anyone who appears to be tech savvy but is completely unrelated due to frustration.

I'm aware that the hackers could theoretically cover their tracks, but say in panic, or at the first sign of danger this group panics and in an attempt to mask who they are they end up pointing the zetas in the direction of a completely innocent party. I certainly wouldn't want to be at the receiving end of the torture and pain an organized drug cartel would have in store for someone they believe to be interfering with their business.

At the end of the day I really hope this does not end up in even more deaths than those that the Zetas are currently responsible for.

I have a feeling that someone will be paid to stage and do terrorist type activities under "anon" name, thus allow homeland security to put a serious buttraping on these nerds.
