Anyone heard about the Mayor Moonbeam video? I managed to find a copy online, after someone sent a takedown notice to the version on youtube. Well played Mayor, well played. I always thought parody was exempt, but whatevs. Mayor Moonbeam – The Video | Dave.ca Communications Inc. Kind of funny. |
I really do not think Gregor will get reelected. Who was that other guy that was running against him last time? The guy from NPA i think? He was actually a solid candidate |
yeah i can't say i'm a fan of gregor, but as mentioned above he does take public opinion very seriously. too seriously - to a point where he almost seems like a pushover with his policies. |
Gregor. Although I think his decision of putting up those stupid TVs (at Vancouver taxpayers' expense) during the Stanley Cup playoffs was absolutely retarded (While our public programs are grossly underfunded [education, renewable energy, etc.] the mayor goes out of his way and spends hundreds of thousands of dollars to subsidize people to watch MORE TV? Wow. Just wow.) I am also very disappointed at his subsequent handling of the riot. With that said, I do think his policies on reducing homelessness (this program improves all our lives-reduces crime/injustice/etc.) and his aim to improve Vancouver's livability (bike lanes, local food, greenery etc.) is to be applauded. |
I don't get why the NPA doesn't fight fire with fire and put up an mayoral candidate who's just as photogenic as Gregor, but is actually able to articulate. Gregor may be a pretty face, but he's pretty bad when he's forced to stray from his talking points. I can't listen to him for more than a couple of minutes when he ventures off-script. Anton would probably make a decent bureaucrat, but she's not cut out to be a politician. She comes across as old and cranky (I suppose she reflects the majority of NPA supporters.) Mike Klassen, the guy who used to run that CityCaucus blog, should have put his money where his mouth was and ran for mayor himself (instead he chickened out and decided to run for council.) Heck, even Rob MacDonald would have done a better job of galvanizing supporters of the status quo and the wealthy by running for mayor. (He ran an editorial in the Province a while back in which he called for the ripping up of the bike lanes.) |
Gregor will get it, hands down. My summary of Vancouver politics...he's a twit and she's a twat. Pick one. It'll be cheaper to pick the twit. I think he's more an "ideals guy" than good at actually running the city. Seems that a few instances he just kinda hopes it works out for the best. Let's hold hands. |
Which of the candidates is from the Conservative party? Doesn't say here: Candidate profiles for Mayor - 2011 Election |

Remember to vote today peeps! No complaining about the government if you don't |

WTF. I hate to say this but Gregor will probably be re-elected again, NOT because he's doing a great job running the city, but because there's no real alternatives unless you want some hippie "artists" or some random dude that happened to be wearing a suit. |
one of my votes for school trustee was BANG nguyen ... simply cuz his name was BANG. otherwise, as people who read all the political threads know, i voted npa :) no surprise here. |
Vision Vancouver received zero votes from me. I'm not a fan of their closed-door politics at the financial expense of the city's residents. Not to mention, the STIR project (Short Term Incentive for Rental) to tackle homelessness and affordable housing? What a joke. |
Voted but did not vote for any school trustee. Some schools in Nanaimo are still running Windows 95. School boards need to be gone. |
Gregor is ahead by 10K votes now, so he's in and it looks like 6-7 Vision councillors as well too. Watch results here: Election summary - Election 2011 - City of Vancouver Elections |
=( |
i voted for DUBGEE :troll: |
Any bets on where the next bike lane will be? Gregor campaigned on making Vancouver the #1 greenest city, so I expect 3 years of more initiatives that make living here hell, yet give David Suzuki a hard on. |
WOOO Gregor! Quote:
bike lanes would have saved her :/ |

I posted an article where a woman was killed on a street 1 block away from a street with a dedicated bike lane. Why wasn't she using the bike lane still remains a question - yet bike lanes certainly did NOT save her cause she didn't use them. Either bike lanes don't work, or we need a bike lane on every road cause guess what... not all bike lanes are going to take you 100% of the way to your destination. Bike lanes on every road aren't feasible, thus bike lanes don't work. |
I cannot believe so many people voted YES to allow the city to borrow money. I have't liVed in a city that borrowed money, nevermind asked voters if they could and voters said "sure, go ahead, we'll pay higher taxes later to cover the payments". |
^ ^ ^ Just based on the results of the 3 capital plan borrowing questions, I'm convinced this city is full of morons. Unless the 2:1 ratio of people voting yes all misread the question.. |
So you expected the vote to be the opposite of how most people are living in the lower mainland? On borrowed money. Quote:
