ya three year contract....get an xbox and kinect with it, also heard of free hardware rental |
its been said in this tread before but it's like people are looking right past it. telus sucks because their tv and internet share the same signal so when your downloading something and then turn a tv on it slows down. when your gaming and you turn a tv on it slows down. when you turn another tv on it slows down more... with shaws new plan personalizer i'm getting broadband 50 (telus can't even compete with this) shaws new gateway system with 2 portals (each extra portal is 5 bucks a months) and all the channels i could ever want except super channel and like one channel package filled with spanish crap and cmt and home phone for 176/month after taxes... |
176/month that is just crazy....hell, i think $114 is crazy but that seems to be the norm now |
I'm at $131/mo with taxes for all 3. One year to go in the 2 years I signed for the free xbox360 that I still haven't used. :p |
in summary. the grass is greener on the other side. |
we're at $200 ish i think its like $205 on shaw just tv+internet |
telus has better ui, customer service, and cool bonuses (ie u can record from anywhere from ur phone via an app). personally we were annoued that shaw's internet cap was smaller and they were statting to monitor and possibly charge for overages somwe switched. ive been a fan ever since. to summarize, telus is more technologically advanced and has cooler technology = better. however id prolly just go with whoever has the better deal i guess at thetime Posted via RS Mobile |

+1 Telus TV cuts your internet speed pretty bad. |
I'm paying $100 just for TV sigh |
Hmmm I guess I'm just not that techy.... Ishtar watch tv or go on Internet so I have not been effected..... I could never pay 200/month on tv and internet..... I'm a. $103 and get everything I want Posted via RS Mobile |
its a price vs performance thing if your a price sensitive consumer then go with telus. their prices ARE better but there's no way around the fact that they can't compete performance wise. why do you think it's cheaper? if you want the performance then a few dollars more per month is something you can live with. and just to be clear. i did say it in my post above but 176 include home phone service. i think home phone is ~25 a month after taxes. i get consistently 35+ Mbps internet on broadband 50 |
my next dilema is the fact i don't have a telephone jack in my tv room (don't ask, 80's house) will telus run me a new line? or do i need to get someone to do that for me? |
If you're getting service installed, Telus includes all necessary installation on the initial install. The tech spent 5 hours running new wires, installing outlets, etc. when I got mine installed a year ago. I only needed it in 3 rooms (1 for internet, 2 for tv) but it was literally on 3 opposite corners of the house. |

They have other channels that are few and some are paid like vudu or Netflix and such...once you're in you'll eventually hear of naxi-x... Posted via RS Mobile |
Telus told me Shaws 50mb advertised speed is shared with the neighbourhood where telus' 25 is delivered right to your door - can anyone confirm this? I'm really not too concerned about internet slowing down when I'm watching tv. Don't dl much and never game. Comparable package to what I have now with Shaw will only save me $4/mo with Telus. However, I'm building a theatre room and need another HD PVR = $200 plus $50 to run a new outlet. Telus will come and give me 3 boxes and install for free so that's $250 in savings + the free Samsung tablet worth $500. Add all that to the $144 I'll save over the duration of the 3 year contract and I'm up almost $900... I could easily sell my PVR for $100 and its 1k. Explained this to a lady in Shaw retention (minus the PVR selling) and she turned into a total bitch. If you guys got question about Telus TV, PM me. I'll try to hook you guys up the best I can ;) |
with telus atm cuz i managed to get a great deal with them... 70 dollars for home phone (caller id and free long d to hk), optik tv (any 6 themes and hd sports + basic), 15 down fibre optics no contract so i can leave this obligation anytime i want... had a few problems with the setup and they were very responsive to my request had a problem with where my router was setup, called them through their support hotline and waited about 5 minutes to get to the tech. the tech tested a few things for me on his end and determined that they would need to send someone to my place to get manually rewire some of the lines in my home. they allowed me to choose the time when the tech would come, the problem was solved within an hour and the onsite tech helped me setup my optik tv on the side also... all in all im having a positive experience with telus in terms of their services. not sure how competitive the pricing is tho since i keep getting these letters from shaw on the 15/15/15 promotions |
how long is the pricing for? that's really good cheap |

That's why you ALWAYS have people bitching about Shaw's internet speed on RS. I'm almost always getting 2.9MB/s when I'm getting stuff through newsgroups and that's with my brother's 2 computers on surfing the net and doing their own thing. |
xtreme internet and every shaw channel except setanta. $70 and tax :troll: |
Telus optix will charge you for otherwise free NHL on sportsnet (Rogers affiliated) with Shaw. just FYI. I'd prefer my cable company take their piss war where it wont affect its customers, but hey i'm just a consumer. Shaw never had any contracts even for business SOHO + Digital cable I can quit anytime but im quite happy. Never going back to Telus, NEVER. |

With Telus, you have your own fibre run between your home and the central office (in a nut shell.) |
Telus does not run fibre to your house. The last mile is copper. Maybe if you live in a brand new development, then they may run fibre straight to your house. |
^ Thanks. I didn't want to get into the technical details but I knew somebody would. |
