Still loving my Optik TV and Internet. Just did a Speedtest and got 10mbs while recording 2 HD shows, watching a 3rd HD show, kids watching a SD show and iTunes downloading App updates in the background.

Still very happy with my Internet performance compared to Shaw which was all over the place.

I've been trying to tell people that forever.
Telus = constant speed
Shaw = Random Spikes

Yes shaw internet can SOMETIMES download at 50mbps for a few seconds
but Id rather have 15 mbps constant all day everyday

I know plenty of people who get a constant connection with Shaw. I get a constant 40-45 mbp/s on my connection.

I just received those annoying Telus calls from India last week. He offered Optik + Internet for $40 first 6 months and $70 thereafter with free tablet.

I am currently with Shaw on student plan, basic + HD sport + chinese + xtreme internet for $70 taxes in. This will expire in October though so I might switch to Telus. The problem is what do I do with my Shaw boxes? I paid $200 for the HD box and moved my old SD box to a bedroom.

I'm sure there are people who get consistent service, but it hasn't been that way with me.

I've ran both Telus and Shaw for years with a Dual WAN router so my server gets 100% uptime. The stats and logs from my router showed more data being routed through Telus overall (which shows that Telus had a higher average bandwidth over time than Shaw, even though Shaw could at times be much faster).

I haven't tried Shaw 50 or their newer packages so I can't comment on how they would perform.

Keep them in case you want to switch back.

Since Shaw has introduced their Broadband 50 (among others), they have rolled out a new network which rarely has slowdowns, even during peak hours.

So I think it's unfair to compare your current Telus internet connection with the old Shaw network.

JesseBlue 04-06-2012 09:09 AM

he is basing it on experience...good for shaw to upgrade though...

Over9K 04-06-2012 04:31 PM

Always been the other way around for me.

Shaw always had constant blazing fast speeds, while Telus sucked cocks most of the time.

Gh0stRider 04-06-2012 04:44 PM

still trying to get a free shaw hdpvr :(

tegz 04-06-2012 06:52 PM

Recently switched over to shaw broadband 50. Constant 50 mbps down and 2.8 mbps up. Little bit of problems with the TV though, not getting like 1 or 2 channels in HD that I'm supposed to. Talked to the tech and he said it's interference. I think it's from the security camera line also going into my TV from a s-video splitter or something.

Other than that service has been great, price is very reasonable for what we're getting.

Been happy so far.
the original price of my package with no deals was $130 a month before tax so after tax about $145

But after the promo and deals its at $79 before tax they always give promo deals so I am happy.

price breakdown after promo is phone $17 internet optik turbo $24 TV $38

edit: if anyone is wondering if you have all your tv's on at once will it slow down your internet. NO

if you have optik turbo it holds 10mbps for tv and the rest for your internet

I can run 4 tv's on hd all day and the internet is fine

wrong. u get 25Megs. each HD stream is 4-5Meg. u watch 4 different streams you're eating up 20Megs. and have 5 megs to spare for your internet connection. how do i know? i install that shitttttttttt

Basic channels pretty much
Internet dunno

I swear I'm getting gyped so hard. Started using Shaw for a couple of years but we're like w.e and we let it slide.

I locked in for 2 years, that's all I needed to do to get the free Xbox360 at the time. Locking in for 3 years just gets you the free... tablet? laptop? Optik PVR/Receivers? I got the 2 year Optik Receiver for free, and bought my PVR outright for $99 I think it was at the time. FS/BB were having a sale. My 2 year contract is up Nov. 19, so we'll see if I just buy the box or what, but I'll definitely stay with Telus for the foreseeable future. Far less problems than I was having with Shaw.
