reading a few articles and suggest that u2412m is better in price and for development.

Since a lot of devices and monitors can't produce the colours like the u2410 its not worth it.
I guess depending what your developing though.

Id go with the u2412m for gaming, movies, and general use. From what Ive read the u2410 is more so for people who actually will use it to its full potential of photo editing and stuff like that. I actually have the u2410 and am planning to purchase the u2412m as a 3rd monitor in the future since its not worth the extra $100 for what i do.

Yeah, I looked around online and didn't see any other options at that price range, especially since Dell has the U2412M for $329 right now. Even on some of the photo forums, they're saying that the U2412M has good color accuracy compared to the U2410, which is just slightly better and you'd have to try hard to notice.

So for an extra $100, you'd get a HDMI in and a card reader, neither of which really matter to me so I ordered a U2412M. I'll let you guys know how it is when I get it. Heck, if I don't like it, I'm pretty sure I can get my money back selling it and buy a U2410.
So how's it been?

the monitor definitely needs extra calibration. The colour is awful when I first bought it.
The mode (gaming, text, entertainment) did not really help much.

The price premium for the u2410 isnt worth it for gaming. Go with the u2412

Colors don't quite have the punch you'd expect out of the box. Download a calibration profile if you don't have a color calibration tool.

Otherwise, no complaints. Would be nice if it had a few more bells and whistles but at this price, it's a great IPS screen. Very happy with it.

Don't bother. In 5 years, just buy a new monitor. We'll have 30" IPS 3D 0.00001ms refresh rate 4800x3000 7.4 billion color 1mm thick LCDs for $269 by then.

Extended warranty is just a cash grab for most companies, especially at the retail level.

tons of people are still hanging on to their 5 year old dell IPS
it seems you get either a defective unit out of the box or it's good to go for a long time...i dunno about LED backlit ones but the CCFL ones after few years of usage takes a while to warm up apparently.

but yeah I hope we'll have affordable retina display IPS 30" in a few years :P

Yup. CCFL takes some time to warm up. I noticed it on my CCFL screens. The LED is instant.

I've had my DELL 24 inch since 2007 and it's been rock solid so I'd say go with the Dell. Also i've used my buddies 24 and 30 inch IPS and they are just amazing.

whats amazing about dell is that they are using panels from LG (the u2410 and u2412m)

and LG is considered a lower tier brand in korea
