New 24" LCD Recommendations

My Benq FP241W is fried so I'm looking to get a new LCD.

I'm looking at the Dell U2412M at $329. It's an IPS panel and that's a rather good price.

Anyone else with a recommendation?

I want color accuracy for photo editing but not so much that I'm willing to pay thousands for it. But at the same time, I don't want any of those cheap LCDs either.

Around that price, around that performance. Just wondering if anyone else has a suggestion before I order a U2412M.

EDIT: And it must be 24"...not 23". I'd prefer 1920x1200 and not 1920x1080 as well but that's slightly less important.

I freaking love my dell ultrasharp, best monitor I've had since day one, no complaints ever and going on about 3 years

Also it's a pretty good looking panel in terms of aesthetics

u don't really have a choice at that price point unless you wait for the u2410 to go on sale, which is usually $100 more than the u2412. The next price bracket up goes to $500+tax. Then you can look at the NEC, HP, and the Asus.

look on TFTCentral and shopbot.ca the models that interest you. i thought about lining up @ NCIX's grand opening to grab the LG 23" IPS for $179 but was too lazy. I have a Spyder coming so I'll wait for the next DoD or Ultrasharp to go on sale.

Is 24" that much bigger? I'm using a 23" @ 2048x1152 about 3.5ft away from me and I think it's decent. I understand that bigger is probably better ...

I like having dual monitors and my other one is a 24".

Yeah, I looked around online and didn't see any other options at that price range, especially since Dell has the U2412M for $329 right now. Even on some of the photo forums, they're saying that the U2412M has good color accuracy compared to the U2410, which is just slightly better and you'd have to try hard to notice.

So for an extra $100, you'd get a HDMI in and a card reader, neither of which really matter to me so I ordered a U2412M. I'll let you guys know how it is when I get it. Heck, if I don't like it, I'm pretty sure I can get my money back selling it and buy a U2410.

My friend got that monitor (Memoryexpress had it for $179 not too long ago and we pricematched @ Staples, who also carries it). It's a solid monitor, although not quite as nice as my 24" Dell Ultrasharp (especially in the connectivity area).

I'd recommend the Dell unless your budget doesn't allow it.

LED is backlighting and is far less important than the panel.

But, yes, the Dell has LED backlighting.

any comments on color accuracy and gamma etc.? it caught my eye because not only is it a lot cheaper, according to the TFT review it's on par if not better than the ultrasharp in some areas. connectivity is not important to me, I want a larger IPS panel to edit photos on; on a budget of course. my old ultrasharp is portrait mode permanently for web browsing.

I just ordered an off-lease Dell 2408 off dfsdirect.ca - for about $240 shipped with taxes in. It's not an IPS panel like the 2410, but it's quite decent for that price - just has a bit more input lag...

oh sorry, just checked - it's sold out now. sorry.

If your ordering off Dell, I recommend waiting everyday for their dell deals. Ive noticed in the last 2 months that the P2412H has dropped to $169.00 (Retail $299.00) more than once.. It actually was on sale 2 days ago and I ordered 4.

He got the IPS236V (not the IPS231P that's on TFT), which uses the same panel/backlighting setup, but have different feature sets (IPS236V is tilt-only, has HDMI input, touch-panel controls, and a much nicer-looking bezel).

As per the review of the 231P, it's not perfect out of the box for colour-critical work, but it still looks good for gaming, movies, etc. You'll probably get a calibration tool if you're doing photography anyways (my friend isn't and is fine with it uncalibrated), so it should be fine.

This is the one he got:

http://www.staples.ca/ENG/Catalog/ca...eyword=ips236v

I think LG makes the panels in Dell's Ultrasharp line. I think the U2711 has the same panel as the one in the iMac 27" - which actually makes the iMac decent value considering the quality of the monitor - except for the stupid glossy display.

Samsung might make Dell's regular monitors.

Dell uses different panels for different models and even different revisions within the same model. I assume because it's all about who puts in the best bid and/or best meets the design guidelines set by Dell's designers and engineers.

U2711 is made by LG, but I don't think it is same as the Mac panel? one LCD, one LED.

Samsung just launched their SA850 27" which is far more interesting.
PLS LED, 2560x1440, 100 percent sRGB, 3x usb3.0, for sure their 24" versions will compete with the rest.

This 27-Inch Dell U2711 Monitor Looks Eerily Familiar...

The panel doesn't have anything to do with the backlighting... I don't know if it's the same panel as the current iMac with thunderbolt though.
