The Official Android 4.0 IceCreamSandwich Discussion

Lets throw all the AOSP software crap into one thread

I'll start, I've loaded the FINALLY STABLE NexusS AOSP rom onto phone. Everything including data stats + all essential communication tools work

Using a VERY STABLE kernel on my NexusS with this rom
Goal is to be able to push the phone to 20hr battery life like the old

How is the progress on the SGS2? maybe users with HTC Evos can chime in too?

dasani604 11-21-2011 09:40 AM

Do you have the menu/back buttons on the screen as it will be in the Galaxy Nexus? I was watching a video of the port for SGSII and it has those on-screen menu buttons and the functionality of the soft buttons (original menu/back/home buttons)

unit 11-21-2011 09:52 AM

i got it on my nexus s
loving it. i went through a bunch of those early xda releases and they were full of bugs.

!MiKrofT 11-21-2011 10:14 AM

SGS2 is far from a final product. According to the youtube video I saw the soft buttons are disabled now so it's strictly using the capactivive buttons. I think Samsung may even be able to release ICS before hackers do since SGS2 is currently their flagship product.

Tim Budong 11-21-2011 02:42 PM

NO FCs and the ICS is running smoooooth on Nexus S
although I believe hardware acceleration isnt included on my ICS port. The franco kernel is doing wonders for the phone as well.

with what i've seen from the dev port and now the AOSP port, the final product will be fantastic

Just flashed my Nexus S on Kwiboos rom and Francos kernel. Noticing the blue tint here. Also My Titanium Backup doesnt seem to work when I'm restoring. Stays on the first app at 0% forever now.

Tim Budong 11-22-2011 01:39 PM

Titanium Backup doesnt seem to want to work on all ICS ports for nexus S
i used it for a day, no FC everything was smooth
but im back to CM7.1.0.1

Tim Budong 11-26-2011 04:36 AM

As I posted in the NS thread
CM9 Alpha is out..which is essentially Android 4.0 Cyanogen

Its been a few hours, NO FORCECLOSE and VERY STABLE
Heres a small preview!

Jelly! Does titanium backup work in this build?

!Yaminashi 11-27-2011 12:15 AM

Oh man cant wait for ICS on SGS2

Tim Budong 11-27-2011 04:49 AM

titaniumbackup works
some apps I had are not ICS ready
and some apps had issues after using TB, but it worked fine if i downloaded them again from the market

dasani604 11-27-2011 11:35 PM

CyanogenMod team has a ICS build (Pre-CM9) for the Captivate up and running.

It seems like they won't be working on the SGS2 yet and it doesn't make sense that atinm and his team would. SGS2 will officially be getting ICS anyway while the Captivate is at meh status.

From what I've read, cm team is having some difficulty with sgs2 mic driver and that is slowing down their progress with getting a usable alpha build out.

I believe I read somewhere that the Cyanogen SGS2 had issues to begin with

willystyle 11-28-2011 08:58 PM

ICS does not run as smooth as stock gingerbread on Nexus S.

Too bad. Considering Samsung actually gave cyanogen a free SGS2 to develop on.

that is expected, tho brainmasters ICS rom is tweaked to run better, I have yet to test it.
There are still issues with the hardware accel and such in these alpha builds
Should be better once the official ICS is released and devs can get crackin

CM7 was garbage on sgs2 in my mind...

:fuuuuu:

willystyle 11-29-2011 03:43 PM

I also notice that with ICS (well in the build that I was using anyway), there was no option available to enable/disable background data, which means battery life is gonna be worse than that of gingerbread.

unit 11-29-2011 04:11 PM

i find one thing i dont like about the youtube app in ics is that it rotates 180 degrees.
its annoying when ur laying down and watching and it rotates really easily

It's like that on Gingerbread too, you can turn off screen rotation.

CRS 11-29-2011 07:51 PM

I should have darthchilli do all my roots and roms.

Every time he posts his screens, I get jelly.

threezero 11-29-2011 08:02 PM

My experience with honeycomb and gingerbread is that some app refuse to rotate. Gets to be a problem when using tablet with certain case has that been fix with ics?

im talking with screen rotation on, it should only do 90 or 270 not 180.
dont think that happened in gingerbread? maybe thats a feature from cm7? dont remember.

willystyle 12-02-2011 01:30 PM

Anyone notice that the Android OS is always draining the most battery life?

I'm using Koush's CM9 Alpha 11 Rom, and battery life is worse that of stock gingerbread.
