Best TV for $1000?

Looking for a tv for my bedroom for Christmas, last night at futureshop I was looking at the 40" samsung 3D LED 120hz with the glass edge, not sure of the model but it was going for $999

I'm open to pretty much buying from anywhere or even like openbox.ca etc

Also considering perhaps buying a higher end Open box item from a FS or best buy

It might be worth the wait for the boxing day sales to come.

Usually the biggest sales are TVs on boxing day for bestbuy and futureshop. I remember buying my 52" with a sound system for around $1200.

Plus the sales guy will be too busy to explain and sell you the extended warranty lol

I have a 50" LG plasma in my bedroom and I love it for movies and games. Only problem is that its a plasma and there is a shit TON of glare off the TV. IMO for a room with a lot of light like a bedroom, it's best to get an LCD.

Yea typically during the day my room has quite a bit of glare, although if I upgraded my blinds it would probably help

I've also been looking at LED and super thin panel LCD because I kind of what to hang the tv directly on the wall without much of a big mounting bracket etc

You can get low profile mounts. Also Samsung and other companies make slim plasmas. CES 2011: Samsung's New Ultra-Slim Plasma TVs Announced

It seems like a fairly general rule is distance should be 1.5x to 2.0x the size of the TV.

What are your priorities?

I just bought a TV with these priorities:
Price
Brand
Size
HD

I didn't want to spend a lot, but I didn't want a Vizio tv either. The size was flexible, between 42-50", and i didn't need 1080p because i'm never going to hook up a Blu-Ray or PS3 to it. The TV is for the kitchen/dining room, so it's not the main household tv.

I ended up with a 51" Samsung Plasma 720p for $480. It was pretty cheap, a decent brand, great size and the 720p was enough for the sources that are going to be attached (HD TV and downloaded tv shows)

At 6 feet, you should be looking at 32-37"

And do you really need a $1000 TV for the bedroom? Why not just get a basic 1080p 32" for a couple hundred bucks?

figure id have it for a while and when it comes to TV's dont really like buying a "lesser" product, although when it comes to TV's there is an improvement at almost any price point

basically my needs are:

37-46"

I prefer samsung or sony just because i'm somewhat loyal/bias to those brands
will be hooked up to HD PVR, Computer, Bluray player, so 3 inputs would be nice at the minimum

preferably slim panel but i could live without super slim and just put it on a TV stand

was looking at this model at futureshop:

Samsung 46" 1080p 120Hz LED Smart TV (UN46D6000) : 40" - 49" LED TVs - Future Shop

I'm looking for a 46'' for myself as well for less than $1000 tax in for LCD. LED would be nice but I don't think I would find something $1000 tax in for a 46''.

Panasonic. Sony is overpriced and LG is Lucky Gold star, two of the crappiest brands merged together.

Personally I'm a fan of Sony especially their XBR line

Nothing but bad experiences with Panasonic, albeit with a older rear projection LCD but at the time it cost $3400 and their support was pretty bad and
Continuous bulb Problems with the tv
