Cell Phone Numbers Go Public This Month!

Just a friendly reminder that all cell phone numbers go public this month to telemarketing companies and you will be charged for these calls! (your daytime minutes)

To prevent this, go to the following web-site for Canadian Telephone Numbers:
Click here: www.lnnte-dncl.gc.ca and then click on English & then on "check my registration."

It is the National DO NOT CALL list.
It blocks your number for five (5) years. It will also tell you if your Do Not Call has expired.

:hotbaby:

I heard that some telemarketers actually use these lists to get numbers? lol.

Anyways, whenever telemarketers call me and I got time to waste I start telling them that their name "Sean Johnson" or something is not their real name, and I ask them their indian name. They either rage and say "you think all telemarketers are indian!?". To which I reply "no american has that thick of an accent go get a real job etc. etc." and follow it up with a "you're already lying to me with your fake name, why should I trust you?" They usually rage quit by now/a few times they've gotten pretty angry with me lol.

Or they tell you their real indian name .. which just gets awkward.

wtf: They are giving cell numbers to telemarketers? who's smart idea was this?

bcrdukes 11-29-2011 07:40 PM

Telemarketing companies can buy the lists.

Thanks for the heads up!

Just don't answer numbers you don't recognize. If it's important or a legitimate company, they'll likely leave a message and a callback number.

who approved the phone companies giving our cell numbers out? Anyone have more info on this?

Redlines_Daily 11-29-2011 07:59 PM

ok, I did a little research and seems this claim is false. Cell numbers are not going public, this is an internet hoax that has been circulating as far back as 2009 from what I can see.

My brother says people that put their number on the DNC list actually got more calls..? However that works.

Culture_Vulture 11-29-2011 08:06 PM

I am not sure if this is an urban legend or what, but a friend of mine from Sri Lanka says Indian companies/telemarketers somehow get their hands on these DNC lists all the time. I'm guessing since it's the Canadian do not call list, technically they aren't breaking any laws operating outside of Canada.

I don't know how accurate her statement is though, because I've personally never had any Indian telemarketers call me (that, and I let all unknown numbers go to voicemail).

This is true, anyone can purchase the Do Not Call Lists database of numbers. Non Canadian resident telemarketers can/will purchase these lists as leads to call since the Canadian do not call rules do not apply to them since they aren't resident of Canada.

both this going public thing leading to more calls and the dnc lists leading to more spam are believable yet not confirmed to me. gonna wait it out n see

The other trick is that, by law, they have to remove you from their calling list if you ask them too. So now they call with automated messages so that you can't tell them to remove you.

The odd time that I do get caught by one of these fuckers, I just yell and swear at them til they hang up.

Razor Ramon HG 11-29-2011 08:42 PM

My friend said this on Facebook

Quote:

telemarketers get the DNCL so they can cross reference whos on and not on.. so now they ALL HAVE YOUR NUMBER. good luck trusting them to adhear to whats on the list.. also anyone who is willing to pay a fee is able to access the entire do not call list

tool001 11-29-2011 09:09 PM

just dont sign up for free shit and contest using ur cell no.s, and u wont get any telemarketing calls..... simple.

Grandmaster TSE 11-29-2011 09:10 PM

He meant source of your information.

woob 11-29-2011 09:14 PM

Hearsay is hearsay. I suggest looking up the info on the Government of Canada website. It's all there.

If you are being hassled by a telemarketer, one may simply request that the telemarketer stop calling, as stated earlier.

Sauce (https://www.lnnte-dncl.gc.ca/cofi-fico-eng):
Quote:

If you do not want to be called by a telemarketer making an exempt call, you can ask to be put on the telemarketer’s internal do not call list. Every Canadian telemarketer is required to maintain such a list and respect your wishes not to be called.
To complain about telemarketing calls, check this link out: https://www.lnnte-dncl.gc.ca/plt-cmp-eng

bakasam 11-29-2011 09:19 PM

Fuck I was just about to make a thread about this.

Has anyone else been receiving a lot of "Marketing Research" phone calls on their land line lately? Most are Automated Answering machines as well. A lot as in 1 in every 3 or 4 (My # is already on the do not call list)

CorneringArtist 11-29-2011 09:28 PM

I've been blasted by loud call centres so often, I just fucking yell and swear at them telling them to fuck off and hang up. That and the caller ID shows as "Toll free"

beebob 11-29-2011 09:40 PM

fuck the telemarketers, bunch of no good low lifes

HondaGuy 11-29-2011 09:50 PM

I'm already getting calls about winning cruise tickets today...haha :alonehappy::heckno:
