This is a conversation that only people born in the 80's will see eye to eye with. My wife and her younger brother don't understand why I'd rather listen to public enemy, krs one, pac, etc over the recent stuff.

Its turned me off of rap so much that I now listen to the fox 99.3... But I always get a smile on my face and tune in once an "oldie" rap song comes along my way.

Also, rap used to be about the beats and lyrics, now its more about dance and listening to some guy yell in the background telling me who produced the beat and in which area code.

hahah rap died with Tupac
Pac rapped about life, and it was actually meaningful
he respected women and didn't treat them like objects, which won my respect
he made poetic pieces, not like the mainstream shit we hear on the radio nowadays about bitches, cars, money ... young money? wtf, and etc

i have to admit though, Tupac is a bit overrated. lots of bandwagoners too
though, he's better than more than half the rappers out there today. but, this is just my opinion

dlo 12-02-2011 07:46 PM

if u think tupac is all about treating women with respect and poems than :lol
that guy was a fucking nutt, he did everything, from rapping about peace and love, to taking shots and causing such controversy, that guy was a brilliant man

Jegz 12-03-2011 10:29 AM

rap does suck nowaways but u guys just need to look deeper than the radio. there is good rap but its overshadowed by mainstream music on the radio that most ppl would rather hear. like others said listen to slaughterhouse. also childish gambino, yelawolf and immortal technique's albums came out not too long ago so give those a listen. different styles of rap but all 3 are good. although, i do listen to mainstream too. nothing felt better than bumping 3peat in the car with the bass bumping

taylorswift13 12-03-2011 05:38 PM

what about Eminem?

he peaked during the 90's.. Y U GIVE NO RESPECT?

:yuno:

db1 12-03-2011 05:50 PM

I was born in the 80's and I agree that new rapers suck. I do listen to new rap because I like the beat/bass.

I guess it's just normal to hate on the newer generations music/lifestyle.

Lupe Fiasco just dropped a new mixtape. Listening to it now

Lupe used to be alright, until he went political with some of his stuff.

I was born in the early 90's and my iPod is a mix of new and old. Pac might follow up after Rick Ross, and I might have KRS-One come before a Young Money track.

No doubt that old school rap from the 90's is way better than any of this shit out now a days. I'm still a big hip hop head. Hip hop music is evolving to the point where it's getting real mainstream now. Hip hop artist are getting with dance dj's like david guetta and benny benassi :lol

they need to get that shit outta here.

fucking radio spams flo rida's i got a good feeling 24/7 its so fucking bad

every other song on the radio has some form of electronic touch added to it, not hating or anything but house and trance sounds should not be played alongside a rapper.

Vansterdam 12-04-2011 06:54 PM

mainstream radio shit is overplayed and garbage

CorneringArtist 12-04-2011 07:11 PM

That Flo Rida song makes me want to smash my radio every time it's on; it sounds like a retard is singing the "I got a good feeling" part. I swear that Vancouver's radio stations are run by 16 year old girls with all the shitty pop music and electro hop (ie. Far-East Movement who made dope hip hop before they went mainstream). Luckily my car's radio picks up 93.3 from Washington, and while they play mainstream, I get to hear Niggas in Paris and other decent "new" tracks once in a while.

dlo 12-04-2011 07:18 PM

104.9 plays some good music at time lol
heard a lot of drake recently

cressydrift 12-04-2011 07:34 PM

I think some of you are not looking in the right places. Its not like they played a lot of the good rap mainstream on radios and tv in the 90's. So to judge the crap they play these days on such outlets is wrong.

Go to places like soundcloud, beatport, youtube, etc and you can always find someone new, with recent tracks that are amazing. Our parents say they don't make music like they did in the 60's and 70's, we say they don't make music like they did in the 90's. GREAT MUSIC IS MADE ALL THE TIME. You just have to look and listen. Rap is only going to get better with the recent generation growing up listening to pac, biggie, E, thugs, and so forth. Hopefully they will be inspired and bring something new to the game.

I think it's about how you perceive good music/rap. Although I am still a teenager, I don't care much for the new school kind of hip-hop/rap (Wiz Khalifa/Gucci Mane/Youngmoney etc., some of it's alright tho). Too much of it is about a catchy beat and listening to the same stuff everyone else listens too. I prefer 90's hip-hop, the golden age. Wu-tang, nas, older jay-z stuff, Biggy, Pac, Gangstarr. But some of the new stuff that I really like are recorded by guys from the 90's. Some new stuff that I've found to be pretty good imo: Pete Rock & Smif n Wessun, Slaughterhouse, Random Axe, Ghostface, Method Man and Raekwon still come out with new stuff, Yelawolf, Mac Miller (same age and I can relate to his music). That's my 2 cent.

Teh Doucher 12-04-2011 08:38 PM

anything off this cd is fucking money.

jay-z's older stuff is pretty good as well.

Back in the day it was about story telling. Now you never hear a rapper tell a story.

Childish Gambino is definitely worth a listen, not everyone's cup of tea but lyrically top notch.
