Also, what do you think it's good for after you're done? Nothing. It doesn't get you a foot in the door either.
Want to actually prepare for law enforcement? Get yourself a diploma/degree in Crim, Psych, Accounting or Comp Sci. They want people with education and life experience. | I thought the LESD would be a little different because, every kid I know from highschool who had nothing to take in college just ended up with criminology. As far as I know the LESD counts as post secondary too.

Even the RCMP want people who have a varied skill set... the muni's are no different.
Think about it... would you rather hire some kid who took the diploma and has no other education/experience or someone who has life experience and a business degree (assuming they're both of the same moral standard)? They'll drop the kid like a bad habit. I met a guy who didn't get into policing until he was in his late 40's... served 29 years in the Canadian Forces as a Chief Warrant Officer... he beat out so many young hopefuls with experience alone.

Yes, the money can be very tempting, but as others have said, you have no life, work 15+ hours a day, are constantly surrounded by drugs, alcohol and smokes, and your relationships take a massive beating. One of my ex-girlfriends was (actually still is, technically speaking) married to a rig pig. He came down to visit maaaaybe once a month for two or three days, as the rest of his time off was devoted to driving. He got addicted to crack, started smoking two packs of cigarettes a day, and slept with pretty much every girl in whatever local town was around. Pretty sure he ended up with half a dozen new STI's by the end of every month. lol.
But really, it depends on what sort of person you are. If you're driven, are able to hold your own, and can keep your eye on your goal, you can make it out of there relatively unscathed. The aforementioned buddy's brother worked two single year contracts, saved almost 90% of his take-home pay and bought a house right out with those earnings. That was his goal when he left, and he managed to keep it. He now works as a millwright at a local sawmill in Port Kells. Sure, the money there is peanuts to what he was making, but he figured two years of his life sacrificed in order to not be anchored down by a mortgage for twenty years was a worthwhile trade.

There are not That many drugs running around in the camp because of how strict they are getting with screening you going in and out of bigger camps, But its like the border... You will never catch it all. I see more pot and steroids then anything
Screening can be anything from Searching your room everyday, searching your truck everyday and sometimes random piss tests
