Bolded: rip-off place ! $8+ for a small portion of Hainanese Chicken. I'm a small eater and it doesnt even fill me up. Its more like a snack.

Good Taiwanese food is just hard to come by here.
All of the supposed "Taiwanese" (BBT) places are just cookie cutter joints that don't represent authentic Taiwanese cuisine.

Their BBQ pork is pretty good, no complaints.

Food was decent but they gotta renovate their place so that it doesn't feel like you're stepping back into the 70's or 80's when you eat here.

The Line in the Shang-ri La is awesome!

Friend took me to try it out couple years back when I was living there for 2 years... been 4 years since I went back... miss the food :(

i was actually planning to bring my parents there. usually hate going buffets but this one of the few that actually looks good. after conversation, the lunch is something like $37. pretty decent price.

I admit Matsu is pretty bad quality but its one of those cheap easy places you go at night

rumours are saying that the current boss placed rats into the resturant so the health department busted the old owner's ass and then the current owner took over the business. This was back in hk in the early 90s.

If you like southeast Asian flavors, there are a number of smaller gourmet joints (not any in Richmond that I know of, unfortunately) that are all much better than Tropika. Once you've tried authentic, non-cookie cutter southeast Asian food, then there's no going back to Tropika.
That's just my opinion anyways.

tropika not that bad but just pricy due to expensive rent? Their fried rice in coconut or pineapple shell is to die for :concentrate:
