Smoked By A Windows Phone?
 

Since Windows Phones don't really have a market in Canada yet I just wanted to post this video showcasing that hey its not a bad phone and it could keep up with the high spec iPhones and Galaxy/Nexus's

All that really shows is that a person who is very familiar with their phone and how to do things (has all the steps memorized) will be quicker than someone who isn't familiar with their phone. Doesn't really mean Windows Phones are actually faster than a Nexus or 4S.

Don't get it twisted these guys are gadget savy dudes they are of course at CES worlds biggest gadget convention I am sure they know how to use their phones. It shows that Windows Phone does the necessary things a phone should do a bit better than other OS's does that mean its 100% faster NO but in terms of fundamentals I think its the fastest.

all the reviews from all the major sites are giving WP and the Lumia line by Nokia top notch marks, the lumia 900 also got voted best phone @ ces (but there wasnt exactly any phones announced there)

its getting praise for being extremely easy to use, easier than iOS and quicker

but, for me, i hate that user interface and i dont like the closed system like iOS

Gadget saavy? I don't think so. Just cause you attend CES doesn't mean anything. I mean one of those people was using a blackberry curve... I for one know members from my work that attended and couldn't do a lot of the things mentioned in the video easily.

yet it's not farfetched to think most CES attendees are geeks

never tried WP before but i know it gets quite a bit of praise...maybe it will become more mainstream when win 8 hits

Sure fair enough but its not like these guys don't know how to use their phones. The point is Windows Phone makes fundamental phone features easier to access and use.

For example how would you post to Twitter and Facebook on a iPhone or Android you would have to open Facebook post your status then open Twitter to post your tweet. On a Windows Phone just touch your ME tile touch Post Message select your networks and post its just that simple.

Or how would you check weather on a iPhone you can use your notification Window on a Android you can use widgets but on a WP you can pin different locations to your home screen and with live tiles it will update the weather.

Its just the simplicity and the easiness I don't need to go download a bunch of apps or setup a bunch of widgets it just works but for hardcore fanboys dont take this video with a grain of salt all phones have an advantage over each other and this is what WP can do compared to iOS and Android.

Nope. It's irrelevant anyway. I'm not making any judgement on Windows Phones - just pointing out the test is really nothing more than a carnival sideshow.

Interestingly, Ben (the guy doing the demo) said they won't be repeating the challenge again. Reasons given? People can "game the system" by "using scripts or running custom ROM's" which basically takes the "regular user dynamic out of the equation".

"Regular user". And I suppose this guy is a "regular user" who hasn't gone over every possible scenario numerous times in rehearsal before they started the challenge.


That said, I hope Windows Phone starts to take off. Competition is good for everyone.

^ most of the features ben showed of you don't need to add anything except for weather but thats just showcasing live tiles all challenges Ben set out are built right into the phone. Sure some guy can go in and customize his Android or his iPhone to match the challenge but that requires work.

Ben showed how simple everything is right off the bat and I wouldn't call it irrelevent its slowly picking up momentum and I can see WP taking a chunk out of Androids marketshare and a little bit of iOS

I open twitter and make a post. It feeds to my facebook automatically. Twitter is on my 2nd panel.

I have nothing against Windows Phone as I was previously a hardcore Windows Mobile user. I just agree with Dangonay that the video is kinda "rigged". I don't think it'll take any sizeable chunk out of Android anytime soon as it's been gaining "momentum" for quite some time now.

I played with an LG something or other that was running windows phone. Its actually surprisingly quick.

IMHO, every company approached their UI differently.

iOS: one app on the screen at any given time. This gives apple a huge control on how everything would run. This is one of the reason why iPhone, while being inferior in hardware to its competitors, can still run everything smoothly.

Android: depends on the build/rom, but you can basically place everything on the desk (search bar, widgets... etc). The openness of android truly shine in this aspect. User basically has total control on how they want their top layer to be depending on their usage.

WP: One simplified layout for everything. So, text input could lead to different end/app. The layout makes regular tasks like posting pics/post extremely easy. I haven't tried mango in anything longer than 10min, so I can't say for sure. But anything beyond the design scope of WP, you are pretty much screwed.

i like my meego nokia n9, wonder if he went up against one, they are just as easy to use

I've got $100 that says your android/iOS phone doesn't depreciate as fast as a Windows phone

I don't think so but hearing from Meego to Lumia converters they suggest the Lumia. They say that the UI is faster and the overall OS feel is more enjoyable. All opinions

Hmm, I know it will come to Rogers, by then I'll get a free upgrade, maybe I can try out the lumia

pr 1.2 is coming out for the N9/maemo-meego bringing 4500 updates (the lumias are running on mango after all so they got their performance updates)
including features and performance improvements

as for the fluidity and feel compared to both os's ive read that the N9 is better but features like the keyboard ppl find the lumia edges out

All opinions but I really want to try out an N9 is the 1.2 update official from Nokia or 3rd party and do you have a site that lists all the 1.2 features?

Microsoft does not require carriers to release the latest update for each WP7 phone. It's to the discretion of your carrier whether they want to release it or not. So, WP7? Pass!

I'll take an Android, Heck, even an iPhone over a WP7 any day.

Fair enough I read MS commenting about this and its not going to change anything in regards to updates its either coming to come from your carrier or Microsoft directly. They just dont want a situation similar to what happend with iOS5 where everybody wanted to DL and bam servers crashed.

Heck its better than what Google is doing now only 0.06% have ICS on their latest Android smartphone.

I would rather have it the Microsoft way atleast you will get your update regardless if its from your carrier, vendor or Microsoft directly.

I do agree that Google does a terrible job with pushing latest updates to handsets as they leave it to the vendor; however, there is always that "Option A" for the end user to update their phone from the rom community, if, for example, ICS is not available publicly, or if they are a noob, and don't wish to flash their phones, they have the choice to purchase a Nexus phone. They will always get first dibs on updates, regardless of carrier and vendor. Keyword: Choice.

For Android users, "Option B", the biggest advantage over a closed-source OS (including iOS), is the ability to swap roms to your heart's content. Whether that may be for personal preference, or for bug fixes. If a bug issue ever occur from a custom or stock rom, a Cyanogenmod Nightly Build (as well as other Nightly Builds) can fix that bug overnight as it's community-driven. WP7.5, on the other hand, including, iOS5, can never patch and release bug fixes as fast as an Android Community can. You can be waiting for months before the next patch is available, while struggling with a common problem.

With Android, we have choices, with IOS and WP7, we are forced to use what's given to us.

By all means, I'm not saying that WP7.5 is crap, it definitely has potential, it can do some things better than Android (ie. social integration), but as a whole, Android is currently leaps and bounds better because it can do all that a WP7 can do, plus more.

^ I agree since Android is open sourced you can do alot way more than you can do on a iPhone and a WP. The thing about Android is that as a customer and no longer a hardcore phone geek I dont want to go through the hastle loading new roms etc I just want things provided to me I dont want to tweak or customize Im tired of that, thats why I didn't go the Android route.

But in all fairness iOS and Android is the evolution of a PC while WP is a evolution of a phone. But I heard Windows Phone 8 is going to be a superphone and will be able to match Android feature by feature

It's not Google's fault. The AOSP release is always the first to be available. The issue is that the OEM customizes the release with skins/addons/etc. so they can't just simply deploy an update. In addition the OEM also needs to provide hardware driver support.
