Sucks that getting an oz of bullion at the bank is still way cheaper than this.

Presto 01-30-2012 09:12 AM

The purchase of these coins is not just for the metal. They are collector coins, and they are also legal tender. For $20 bucks (no taxes/shipping), you get a coin that's worth, at least, $20 CDN, when you receive it. Even if it doesn't appreciate in collector value, it's still worth 20 Canadian bucks. Buy it on your credit card and at least get some points!

what are you talking about? an oz is $33.50 spot right now.

Death2Theft 01-30-2012 09:49 AM

These coins are 7.98 grams if the math is right it's 1/4 oz.

godwin 01-30-2012 09:53 AM

Yes it is that amount for an oz.. but the coin is not a full oz coin.

The mint is no longer a purely gov non profit operation and they are no dummy.. the silver coins of today are not as valuable in terms of metal than the coins of the past.

It cost them about $8 of silver to make a $20 tender coin.

Yeah, they're banking on people holding onto them.

I don't know why I keep buying these. LoL

yeah but theres a face value of $20 what part of that dont you understand?
you're buying a $20 coin for $20.

a 1oz silver coin is face value $5, so lets say one day silver tanks, your coin may only be worth $5 while this coin will always be worth at least $20.
not saying its an investment coin but you're not losing anything by owning them either.

pastarocket 01-30-2012 12:56 PM

Thanks for the info.

PuYang 01-30-2012 12:56 PM

freakshow 01-30-2012 01:05 PM

Thanks OP. Just bought some.. although I'm not sure why..

i-VTEC 01-30-2012 01:14 PM

Same, bought it and I don't know why

Presto 01-30-2012 02:02 PM

The good thing is that you didn't really spend anything on them. You just did a swap. You're not out any money, and you can spend your $20 coin anytime. Although legal tender, businesses may not take it, but you can always swap it at the bank. If you decide to keep it, it may appreciate in collector value.

I ordered three, and I know why. :)

Code wouldn't work for me, but used lower case "g" and it worked.

ree666 01-30-2012 05:25 PM

basically an attempt to contract our money supply if they bank on us holding on to them?

Would Mastercard or Visa even know or care?

Interesting thought. I just assumed you would get points.

J-Chow 01-31-2012 12:02 AM

Just ordered 3. One for the gf, and 2 for safe keepings (or anyone wants to trade :) )

+1 I don't think they care. Cause there's many more other products RCM sell that's beyond the price of legal tender / what its value at. If I'm not mistaken, I received points for the 3 x $20 I ordered last time.
