Civic Driver Side Door Lock Problem

Hi everyone, so I've got a question about my Honda Civic 2003 Si. Ever since I've got the car, no one can seem to fix the lock issue I have on the driver side door. It's tough to explain, so I took pictures of it:

The lock isn't all the way in when it's locked, and sticks out too much when it's unlocked. If I push down on the driver side lock, it locks both doors. Does anyone know anything? I'm hoping to try and fix it myself, I don't want anyone else touching it anymore.

pushing down on the driver's lock knob will lock all doors.Thats normal.
The lock knob is screwed on to the end of a threaded rod. Just take the door panel off and twist the knob down a couple turns
