Netflix

anyone uses netflix here? i'm new to the thing and i'm trying to use proxy's to connect to the US version of netflix since they have way better content than us supposely.. now here's a stupid question.. how do i tell whether i'm in netflix US or canada site? thx in advance

mos_skeeto 03-06-2012 10:19 PM

Depends on what device you're using... on my iPad there is a message saying something like "hello customer we detect that you are in the united states so you may notice a change in the available titles". With proxy, it feels like the library is 10x larger. Just go to new releases and it should look radically different.

Are you subscribing to a service? Or just using free proxies?

which proxy are you using?

TurboFC3S 03-07-2012 12:13 AM

If you can find a free proxy server that works let me know.. I tried but nothing seemed to work!

!MiKrofT 03-07-2012 12:18 AM

Free ones do not work. Save yourself the hassle and subscribe to something like unblock-us.com

ForbiddenX 03-07-2012 12:45 AM

Been using unblock-us.com and it's been great! Love all selection of TV shows that I can watch on the american netflix.

Check to see if it has 24, Prison Break, or How I met your mother. I think those aren't on the Canadian ones. I don't know for sure since I haven't used the canadian one in a while

StaxBundlez 03-07-2012 02:28 AM

Netflix here is so bs.
Had it for half a year and just canceled it because there's never anything good on.

Truthfully I probably would have never cancelled it if my credit card hadn't gotten scammed. lol

For 8 bucks it wasn't bad actually..

:considered:
US one IS STILL BETTER!!

If there are any remotely new movies that you have even an inclination to watch, then you're on the US site. If you see only kids shows, movies from the 50s and documentarys, you're on the candian site :P

It goes by IP.

I signed up in Canada. My GF lives now in the US and uses my netflix.

So if you login to netflix using a USA IP address (AKA Proxy server or VPN) you should get all the US content

freakshow 03-09-2012 04:40 PM

I don't know if there is any change is the UI or logos.. if it's just purely the selection, yu might have to try and search for a movie you know the US has but Canada doesnt. For example, Canada does't have Iron Man 1

lungfish23 03-09-2012 08:29 PM

I use my Netflix mostly on my ps3. Is there a way to get a US ip on the ps3?

Unblock-us.com works if you're willing to pay.

rageguy 03-10-2012 12:32 AM

I've been looking to access US content for the longest time. I've checked many solutions. The free ones (VPN, proxy, whatever) do not give you a good speed. You're going to see buffers more often than you will like. If you truly want US content, you will have to pay for a third party service.

Unlock US is hands down the best. Super easy to set up too. If you are at home with a router, then you just have to reconfigure the router. No need to configure your PS3, Apple TV, computer, laptop, etc.

For lungfish23, Unblock-Us | Setting up PS3
For terkan, How to setup and look at the very top of the page "Click for easy set up instructions:"

for those who have unblock-us, what are some of the ways you take advantage of the service besides netflix? i know theres tons of good US services out there.. just don't know what they are..

Firmware 03-10-2012 03:21 PM

^ HULU.COM

Hulu plus all the US TV websites that have content online.

terkan 03-10-2012 11:48 PM

one thing interesting i noticed, if i use my iphone to tether to my vita to watch netflix i get a lot more choices of movies than i do when i just use my wifi. even though my ip on my iphone isn't american i'm guessing my ip is toronto based. maybe i'll just use my iphone to tether from now on lol assuming the data usage ain't insane :P

!MiKrofT 03-11-2012 07:19 PM

It will be if you're watching HD.

Presto 04-08-2012 09:18 PM

Just signed up for Netflix, and also UnBlockUS. It's working great!

From what I can tell, UnBlockUS just provides DNS translation to give the Netflix IPs you'd get, if you were in the US. So, is there a hosts file out there I can download, so I don't need to shell out $5 a month? ;)

Teh Doucher 04-08-2012 09:48 PM

i've been using the free version of hotspot shield and its been working with the US version of netflix just fine.
