For the most part I open the door, walk in, and do a "shoulder check" to see if someone is behind me, if there is then I hold it open with one hand. That's what I do unless I notice the person behind me has some sort of disability (handicap, too many shopping bags etc.), then I open the door, step to the side holding the door open and let them through first.
or
If someone is approaching towards me from behind the door I will open it and let them walk through first.
Haven't had a single incident with anyone | I do the same. Though I do feel that for the most part, people don't appreciate it. Very often do people actually say thank you and a smile will suffice, but some people take it for granted.
Nice guys finish last. |

It's not so much chilvary...but common courtesty at this day in age. A simple thank you, holding doors for others, greeting one another etc etc....Is it so hard?! I will say though....kids/teens/youngens nowadays really lack in this department.

I hold doors open for women and men simply because I believe it's the right thing to do. I have yet to get any dirty looks or remarks for opening doors as of yet. If it does ever happen to me, I wouldn't care and would probably just make my smile even larger looking like a complete asshole.
I open the door for my GF when it's parked in an open area.

the ones who don't give a shit are the ones you mentioned or that typical white girl who thinks shes hot shit, but is just a bitch.
guys always have the man power to say thanks in one form at least may it be thanks or a head nod etc... i am getting the impression women are the ones with a chip
on their shoulder... and the crazy, bad attitude guy we see once in a while is the result of some cow bitch giving him shit. :/
just a question for everyone; how do you guys take it when you're right behind someone and a the person doesn't leave the door open? the door basically almost closes on your face... almost. do you guys take the energy to say anything?

i assume everyone's an asshole so i don't get disappointed or hurt
much like drivers on the road

Used to have a girl friend who thought she was the hot shit (she really wasnt)
and she used to nag at me when i would smile and say thanks back to guys who open doors for us
she'd be like "ahmagah hes hitting on you"
no dumbass its called courtesy
man she was a bitch. I hate when ugly girls think every guy who accidentally make eye contacts with them is checking them out

I practice courtesy more than chivalry.
I won't go out of my way to open a door for a lady, but if she's right behind me I'll prop it up for her. On the flip side, if I see someone with their hands full, I'll go out of my way to help them out - be it an old lady, a delivery man, or just some dude.
Chivalry's an outdated custom. Just look at how chicks dance at clubs nowadays. They want all the freedom and equality so I'll give it to them. Although, like I said, I'll always be courteous. Open doors for my gfs, sometimes car doors (if I'm feeling :likeasir) and pick up the bill.

hearing all this door talk, am i the only one who feels awkward when holding the door makes the person rush when they're completely capable of opening a door themselves?
my friend always holds the door for me, makes me wanna punch him in the face its annoying because it gets in the way more than it helps.
that being said when it comes to girls it seems like there's a fine line between chivalry and equality. times definitely changed that and although i always like paying the bill for dinner, most girls i know want to pay every now and then too. you think they're just being polite and offering so you try to pay anyways, do the awkward dance and sometimes you have to let them pay or it offends them.
ive never got it right lol
pays for dinner, hes the asshole |

I never go as far as opening the door for anyone.
Only if they need help, like they are carrying a bunch of stuff,
or if I see a mom trying to open a door while pushing the strolller through, etc.
If I see someone close behind me, I might hold it open after I walk through it.
But this is if the person is close enough behind me where I'm not waiting and he's not
feeling rushed. No awkwardness.
If he's just a bit close, but not really behind me, I might just give an extra push on the
door as I walk through to delay the door from closing.
