My mom went to some classes at a community center or something and then we installed all kinds of chinese software on her computer. The major problem is, when we were younger, my mom had built a total dependency on the kids for any reading at all. So when anything comes up in Chinese or English, she calls me over to read it to her. This has just become my cue to tell her to read whatever is on the screen. After she started doing a bit of problem solving on her own though, her calls for help have reduced a lot.

She knows somewhat how to use Email, read the news and watch chinese videos online. Now if only I could teach her the concept of typing out what she wants...

Just make sure that if you do choose to teach your mom, don't just teach her how to perform an action with every step in great detail. If you teach her exactly how to do it, she'll only know how to do that single task.

Thankfully my dad was using computers before I was even out out elementary school, I remember him teaching me how to use DOS.

My mom has gotten better the last few years, she can browse the net, email, use Office like Word and Excel. She even knows how to burn CD's/DVD's

What's the best way to teach your parents not to open virus e-mails from family/friends, you know those you get saying 'hey look..check out this picture of you!!!' with a link to a worm.

You know..things that seem common sense when you are on the internet all the time

My mom taught me how to use the computer and play games on it when I was 3.
She only uses it for basic stuff now though, whereas I use it for everything. XD
