I did what I told myself I wouldn't do and replaced the spark plugs. To my horror, there's some oil on the thread of the spark plug on cylinder 1 (it's not that bad) and the ignition coil boot looks perfectly fine. I took a rag and tried to clean up any oil in cylinder 1 but it was clean. Cylinder 2 spark plug is mostly white at the electrode, so something's up. Spark plugs from cylinder 3 and 4 look ok. Car has 146,500KM.

Toyota are reliable and well-built? This is a lie! Today felt like working on a BMW! I need a new car!

Any noticeable difference in feel or response from the engine?

Yes. I took it out for drive onto the 403 and back home. After getting off the 403, the idle and acceleration was immediately smoother and more responsive. Felt like a brand new car all over again. At first, the car drove like it did before. It improved after I got off the 403.

Edit: I took a look at the spark plug for cylinder 1 and the other half of it is white, so it's not fouled or covered in carbon.

It’s not that bad for 150k car !! Surprising even given the city driving. If it was a bmw all those plugs would probably look like that if not worse.

Hmm... it's interesting that the car initially drove like it did before after the spark plug change... But it's good to hear that the engine later adapted and things improved!

Should it have adapted right away?

Have a couple sets of these hangars off Amazon.

Tried two different wall mounted tire racks, and they were really sketchy. This has been good for 2 years now. Supporting pretty heavy winters wheel/tire set securely.

Turns out the oil is just from spilling it the last time you did an oil change...

Or whoever changed your spark plugs last dropped it in a vat of used oil and just crammed it back in with no f's given...

edit: wth happened to the winky face emoji? it just doesn't load!

Is this you finally admitting that the 911 has the best available shift feel, period?

I haven't tried their latest stuff, but the 991 shifter is so damn good. Couldn't believe that it's cable actuated.

not the best feel at all, its okay. Honda's are still better in feel i would argue.

Id rather drive a manual sentra (they make these!!!) over a 992.2 911 any day of the week. Shift feel be damned.

They should bring back the Sentra SE-R Spec-V this time with ATTESA, and stick it to the CTR and GR Rolla.

Now that you mention the smiley, take a look here. Having said that, I don't know if you were serious about the oil spilling the last time I did an oil change.

Porsche shifters are good, but really not the holy grail. I test drove a 992.1 T last week. The shifter was accurate and tight, but plasticky in feel. It slots into gear fine but everything feels like plastic on plastic, it just doesn't feel substantial.

Also, first time driving the 7sp manual, I understand some people's complaint with it. It's a minor one, but the gates are so close together. Maybe I'm just used to wider gates but it was 5 detents going across left to right, which is crazy.

I find it's the clutch that's great on 911s more than the shifter itself especially with the 7 speed - 7th is a real reach and the gate spacing like you say is pretty tight so you have to be just a bit more mindful than on a 6 speed (they do lockout 7th if you're coming from 4th). The clutch, OTOH, felt exactly the way I always wanted - forgiving, communicative but still crisp.

I haven't driven that many manual cars (maybe 10-12?) but I like the shift feel of the TSX the best - that was the most mechanical of the bunch (bolt action) without much friction (the NC could be a bit of a grinder). The WRX and Mazda 3 were both too vague.

You guys should try S2000 shifter especially after a rebuild. Mine is a little tired, but still has the best shift feel out of any of the cars I've driven besides the new Emira manual.

Got to try someone's fresh S2000 shifter and oh baby. I need to do that for next summer.

You liked the Emira manual? I drove a pre-production one and thought it had way too much friction, the gates were good and the clutch was alright but the effort was too high for me. The build quality on the one I drove was terrible (the power steering pump would stop working when I put the car in reverse) so maybe it got a lot better later on.

The clutch was good, but I stalled it leaving the parking spot my man card might need to be revoked. But yes otherwise it was quite good. The auto rev match wasn't intrusive or laggy like BMW, but I turned it off anyways.

I've driven a lot of manual cars, but really spent a lot of time in around 10.

The TSX I drove had a messed up clutch so it was heavy as hell. Honda clutches are really short compared to almost everything else I've driven. Of the cars I've owned or driven extensively, my CRX was the best clutch and shifter combo. I have no idea if it was stock or not but it was just so good.
The NC drivetrain was meh, a lot of people say how good Miatas are but I didn't feel like it was that amazing.
WRX and Mazda 3 both have cable shifters that were not well reviewed. My Mazdaspeed 3, with shift plate and bushings and everything was still mushy and heavy to shift.

Of the cars I've not driven but sat in, GT3/GT4 is high up there for shifter feel. Surprisingly, a Merkur XR4Ti had the absolutely best shifter I've ever felt. It was modded of course but it was so clean, it just clicks into gear with a very satisfying tactile feel and a nice metallic tick.

I haven't tried the Emira yet, but I don't have a lot of hope. I've driven two Lotus Elises and they suck. I know Elise trannies are not great but if that's what Lotus can do I don't have a lot of hope for the tranny that's in the Emira.

I've driven a S2000 in a parking lot. It was not memorable enough for me to rate it. I should try another one some day but that's getting harder and harder. It would have been easier if I still autox but god damn autox is in Mission, and 6 minutes of seat time for a whole day commitment and 3 hours of there and back isn't a great time investment.
