| frantic cellphone robbery in van
twice this month already, my homestay girl was robbed of her iphone. once at metrotown, and just now at richmond. First time she was talking on her iphone, and a black man grabbed it out of her hand from behind and ran. today, she was in richmond, two guys ask for time, upon pulling out her phone, robbed her at gun point. Just letting the word out, becareful where you use your phone, cell phone theft is getting more and more common. her friend was pepper sprayed in richmond the other day, the theft stole iphone.

I call bullshit. Who the fuck robs a female at gunpoint for a CELLPHONE, even getting peppersprayed for a cellphone sounds stupid. I never heard of something like this happening in vancouver.
OP is also known for making stupid threads, so who knows.

smart phones are a commodity for robbers now...
what best way to access your emails that can contain your credit card info, insurance, bank info, address etc.. in one device..
better activate the the find my iphone app.. at least when that happens again, you can simply go to apple store right away and have them wiped out your personal info on your phone and disable the device
also your most likely to have saved up your password and constantly logged on your social network stuff..

If you have an iphone or android you need to get the "find my iphone" or "find my droid" app so you can track your phone through GPS. There are also apps that will disable your phone.
I was just reading this article the other day on cell phone theft soon stolen phones will be worthless. Quote:
The U.S. Federal Communications Commission, along with major wireless carriers AT&T, Verizon and T-Mobile, announced plans Tuesday to create a national database of identification numbers that are unique to each phone.
With that list, cellular carriers will be able to permanently disable a phone once it has been stolen, vastly decreasing its street value. Until now, U.S. carriers have only been disabling so-called “SIM” cards, which can be swapped in and out, creating a black market for stolen phones. | Toronto News: Measures needed against epidemic of cellphone thefts, police chief says - thestar.com |

As much as I think niu99 posts moronic things, cell phone thefts are happening these days.
Cell phones are targeted now more for identity theft than anything else, as a private security consultant part of what I have been doing for my clients in the last couple years has been ensuring they realize this and take security measures and encryption.
Most people these days have their facebook, email accounts, online banking/banking info, pay pass/credit card accounts, itunes/appstores, online billing, personal info (address, DOB), contacts, etc.. linked to their smartphones. I know security specialists/hackers who can hack an Iphone & its linked accounts in under 5 mins and as a demonstration he took over my clients identity very easily.
Stealing your smartphone these days is like stealing your wallet with all our IDs and credit cards in them. Quote:
Richmond RCMP warn residents about a rise in cell phone thefts.
Richmond RCMP is warning people with cellphones – especially new generation smartphones – to take extra care in the city when using their device in public.
Thefts, sometimes brazenly snatched from the hand of owner using violence, are on the up in the city, with 35 such robberies reported since January.
“In some instances, suspects have simply grabbed the phone from the hands of the victim as they walk by, while in other cases, suspects have distracted the victims at which point the phone is stolen,” said Richmond RCMP’s Cpl. Sherrdean Turley.
A distraction technique that has been used, according to the police, is whereby the suspect asks the victim for the time.
When the victim pulls out their cell phone to check the time, the suspect grabs the phone and runs off.
Luckily, said Turley, the majority of the offences have not included physical violence, however there have been instances where physical violence has been used.

Mounties are warning Lower Mainland residents against parading their electrical gadgets out in public after a Surrey man was hospitalized in a brutal weekend attack by thieves trying to steal his cell phone.
Corneliu Belciug was walking home from a North Surrey church after a Saturday night service at around 9 p.m. when an unknown number of attackers whacked him from behind.
"I just remember feeling a heavy blow to the head and that's all I remember," Belciug told CTV News.
The thugs took money from his wallet and police believe they were trying to get his LG smartphone but were spooked and fled.
Belciug was badly injured but managed to find his phone and call his wife.
Stefania Ulici found her battered husband groaning in a parking lot several blocks from their home.
"He was just full of blood and some of it was coagulated over his face, his clothes," she said.
The blows to his head could have been fatal because Belciug is on blood thinners awaiting open heart surgery. He has since been released from hospital but struggles emotionally to deal with the attack.
"I've had all kinds of nightmares," he said.
Belciug and Ulici hope that a police investigation will find the attackers.
Police say they have seen a spike in reported cell phone and MP3 player robberies and recommend the public to be as discreet as possible when using electronic devices or to keep them out of sight -- especially at night.
"It's an issue that plagues the region quite frankly. Cell phone robberies are pretty prevalent," said RCMP Cpl Drew Grainger.
"If somebody does try and confront you for this device, just give it to them. It's not worth struggling over a piece of property such as this." Cell phones are criminal magnets, police say | CTV British Columbia |

^I fucking hate thieves and robbers. I eagerly await the day where angry vigilante citizens bait out such criminals and bludgeon or stone them to death in the streets. I've even thought of starting an underground paper re: criminals called "The Vigilante Bugle."
