Metro Vancouver commuters might feel the pinch as they fuel up for their drive into work.

Gas prices at some pumps are nearing record highs and are expected to climb as demand increases in the spring and summer months.

According to gasbuddy.com the average price of a litre of gas at the pump today in Vancouver is 147.8 cents. That compares with the national average of 127.6 cents.

The highest gas price recorded so far this morning is 149.5 at pumps in Surrey and Coquitlam and 149.4 at many gas stations in Langley, Vancouver and Burnaby.

That's just shy of the record in the summer of 2008, when Metro Vancouver pump prices briefly topped $1.50 a litre as crude oil prices spiked to $150 a barrel.

Meanwhile, British Columbians will be paying more for gas this summer with a carbon tax increase. This July 1, the tax will go up by another 1.1 cents, bringing the total carbon tax on gasoline to 6.67 cents a litre.

We have all these strange taxes on gasoline here in the lower mainland. :okay:

I guess gas south of the border seeing a similar jump?

oil price doesn't really matter. Companies sell a product at a price the public is willing to pay for it. If you were selling a car and one person offered you $5000 and someone else offered you $10000 who would you sell it to.

Also oil companies are not paying $90 a barrel for oil when they have there own oil fields.

Exactly. At the end of the day, we'll pay what ever the price is to drive.

Traded g35 for is350.

By july 1st, we will be paying 52 cents per litre in taxes alone for gas. That includes everything from Provincial, federal, carbon and some other miscellaneous taxes.

Yep we are lucky we don't have all the gas taxes they do in the lower mainland.

It's funny that Victoria has been holding firm at 131.9 for the past few weeks while Langford Costco and Chevron are undercutting each other forcing the price down to 123.9

Who do I believe? It seems "the experts" are at opposite ends of the spectrum.

Global BC | Gas prices near $1.50 per litre, but experts say relief is coming

Anyone know the real cost of gas excluding taxes and levys added by local gov't

hotjoint 05-24-2012 01:10 PM

"Linder added that prices could get down to $1.20 a litre by the end of summer

I'll believe it when I see it....

Glove 05-24-2012 01:14 PM

I am not willing to pay higher than 1.35 ish a litre, thats my threshold

im actually looking into getting a ruckus or vespa for work,

then when I bring back multiple Jerries from the states, shit will last me a month instead of 2 weeks

Gridlock 05-24-2012 01:27 PM

And we could add...the last time when gas prices hit record highs, the United States and Canada went into recession. I'm not saying its THE cause, but there is causality there.

We are too complacent in BC. We pay all these taxes on fuel, and have to pay tolls on bridges? At the very least, if we are going to have 'tax and spend' liberals, can they at least tax and spend? We seem to get "tax and stuff a jimmy up your oohoo" liberals.

Let's take a lesson from Quebec(oh, fuck me I just said that) and they get all pissed about raising tuition to meet the rest of Canada and go on a rage for 6 months...us? hey! its all good man...think of all those poor our pay checks get to help.

Fuck this shit. I'm angry.

so once gas is permanently over $1.50 down in the states you're done with cars for good?

I actually want to buy a Chevy volt in the near future and go electric,

im waiting for a japanese maker to make an electric car like that though, we will see,

for now, ruckus, when gas goes over 1.50 in the US, I buy electric

Szeto 05-24-2012 02:13 PM

filled up at $1.38 last night :fullofwin:

hchang 05-24-2012 03:34 PM

128.9 today in Abbotsford.

Why don't you guys just head over there every now and then for gas? Its a lot cheaper than here and you can bring as many jerries as you want.
