So crude oil is about the same price as it was at the time of the post I'm quoting and I think gas was 1.40+ this morning:rukidding:

so from all the bitching and complaining of Alberta & fed. govt. here's what i got.

Canada sells its oil to US for cheaper. then buys it back at higher price once refined.

i say make some freaking refineries, sell less to US. make more profit by refining oil here and selling to Canadians and at the same time lowering price at the pump.

GET RID OF THE MIDDLE MAN = US

StylinRed 03-01-2013 10:29 AM

^^^^ sell gas to canadians for pennies/L i say! like saudi arabia does lower GDP than Canada but population is similar + they offer more social services (like free university)

but noooo let's not only make sure canadians have to buy it at a high price let's also tax them like crazy when buying it

Graeme S 03-01-2013 10:34 AM

This is the key point: companies have been shutting down refineries left, right, and centre all over North America because refineries don't make a whole lot of profit on their own. Add to that the fewer refineries there are, the more you can make from selling petroleum products because you're constraining refined supply even when raw supplies are ridiculously high.

One of the unfortunate things is that Governments are unwilling to give tax breaks to the Petroleum companies (understandably), even if it's for refineries. But having more refineries would result in more jobs and lower gasoline prices. If you give them tax breaks though, you end up getting voted out because the Other Party will do attack ads that say "Do you want this man--the man who gave Oil Companies a tax break--to be your representative again? Don't vote for the Oil Sand Man."

Fucking hell.

Good thing the conspiracy theorists haven't seen this thread yet... ;)

But if we do this, environmentalist groups will almost certainly rally and protest and kick and scream and cry foul despite all the environmental impact analysis that the oil companies and different levels of government conduct. :failed:

Not sure if this is 100% accurate, but PR Shell is saying that their V-Power gas is only $1.26/L today...

Damn, that's a huge gap...

knight604 03-01-2013 12:21 PM

I wouldn't drive my m6 there to get cheap gas..

I usually buy from USA Gas. Last time I was there it was $1.11/L USD for premium.

That's the gas station furthest up north in Point Roberts, right? Any idea which brand of gas they sell?

I'm very picky when it comes to gas, so I prefer to stay with the Top Tier Gas stations (Shell, Chevron, Petro Canada, etc.) if at all possible.

dyan 03-01-2013 12:44 PM

^

Essentially, all the gas is the same. It's' just different additives into the gas.

Geoc 03-01-2013 12:48 PM

Does anyone know typically how many jerry cans do border guards tolerate you bringing across the border?

I've seen trucks with 7-8 jerry cans, how are they not taxed?

LOL you drive an m6. You can handle it. I pay 1.61/l for a shitty 260hp VW. At least your engine deserves such fuel.:okay:

Go with Texaco then. Same gas as Chevron, a little cheaper. That's where I always go. :fullofwin:

knight604 03-01-2013 12:54 PM

My top tier gas is 91/94 Cheveron/shell , car gets nothing but those two.

Fuck the rest
