he tells me the price of precious stones have gone up multiple folds. i cant remember how much exactly, but very very significantly.

there are worthless diamonds (even at market prices)
the "expensive" ones would be worthless too if the diamond companies weren't hoarding billions of diamonds in their vaults too

And to anyone that thinks that diamonds have an intrinsic value, consider this. Is it listed on the news in terms of commodity prices?

She thus retains both her innocence—and the diamond.

rarity is what determines value in many things, whether it be hockey cards or minerals, i could go buy a block of jade for the price of a shitty tiny diamond, regardless of what you "think" they are worth

De Beers created the entire marketing campaign to associate weddings and eternity with the diamond engagement ring -- hence helping to drive down market supply.

You can still sell the jade for something or is it to you anything worth less than a diamond is worthless? Like rubies, emeralds etc are, in your opinion worthless?

I'm sure everyone knows diamonds are compressed carbons...
I'm sure not everyone knows diamonds can be "grown" now, however, these are for industrial/commercial usage only.
Diamonds are worth diddly squat, they are worth so much because we want them to be, it is literally, a very shiny rock thats hard as balls. Diamonds are plentiful, do a bit of research and you'll realize how saturated the market is.

oh fun fact. diamonds aren't forever. left out long enough they revert back into carbon/coal.
it may take a billion years or so, but hey, you can say stainless steel is forever and it will cost less.
I just remembered an incident where I was in Hawaii at some seedy marketplace in an alley.
I was with friends and their relatives there browsing when the lady at a stand tries to lure friend's Mom into buying some "Jade"
"yeah it's worth $800 but I'll sell it for $400! Goood deal!"
the Mom starts eyeballing the piece intently, (its in a case) I grab her and move along laughing at the lady saying "Nice try" as we stroll away.
It's sad that it's only nice in the Tourist areas of Hawaii. the rest of it is poor as fuck and run down like a giant Indian Reservation.

I always thought that "diamonds are forever" refers to baseball, not rocks.

You can't compare diamonds to gold guys.
Gold ( METAL)is always the same price per ounce, but an ounce of diamonds can be either worthless, or expensive, depending on their size and colour.
You can compare jade and diamonds to a certain extent...... Jade ( ROCK) is basically useless other than the fact it looks 'pretty', whereas diamond ( MINERAL) has more uses than aesthetics. It is extremely hard with a low density making it more sought after than jade. Remember, rocks, or stones, are a combination of minerals so their properties, strength and isotropy will ALWAYS vary....
Believe me, I know they hoard tonnes of diamonds in epic warehouses to bring the price up, but it is still nonetheless rare, that is why you don't see a 'jade mine' in the middle of nowhere up in the arctic circle
Can people please stop comparing ROCKS to MINERALS to METALS and feel bad for these easily manipulated asian people? |
