These rural areas...THIS is what you call poverty. Not living in a city with shelters and mental institutions and food banks, while smoking and drinking alcohol.
There has to be thousands of other stories like these, there are some other ones on the site too.
Living here, we can't judge her actions. We don't know how harsh her circumstances are really are and if we were put in her shoes i bet we wouldn't last a single day. I've read somewhere that some parents even chain their kids because they can't afford daycare while they work.
Sad lyfe
She loves him, and takes care of him to the best of her ability, that's heartwarming. Hope they get help soon (and the many others like them)

It's not like he was abused and looks well cared for. There's probably no support system in China for the poor
People should understand that the mentally ill don't think like normal people. Their bodies are here, but their minds have long left.

yeah they don't think like normal people. but their method of thinking is accurate to their own perception, they have other motives and goals that are completely unrelated to ours.
it's just we don't agree. im sure if you gave him a big safe area to himself, a food/water dispenser, and whatever else he "needed". he would live "free" doing whatever the fuck he wanted to do, which may look like very ill or odd or twisted to us.
he's only chained up to protect him from the dangers of the outside world. it's not him that's fucked up, it's the outside world.

Seriously!? I can't believe all the people on here that think this is OK. Oh, wait... maybe because most of you are Chinese! If anything it shows how behind China is in caring for their population if there are no "systems" in place for handicapped people.
Whatever you guys say, my stance will not change. This is NOT OK.

It's not because all of us are Chinese, it's because people are acknowledging the mother making the best out of a shitty situation and worked to obtain exposure for her cause You live in a society where "special" people are put on a pedestal. The Chinese system does not include those people, but you have to realize china is a developing country that does not put much emphasis on equality (think female inferiority). If anything, your post shows your ignorance and how much of a sheltered life you've lived.

Whatever you guys say, my stance will not change. This is NOT OK. | Take off your privileged Western lens. So easy for people in the West to say, they haven't experienced living under a communist regime or were around when millions of people died of starvation. It hasn't been that long since the country has opened up and it will take quite some time for them to catch up. There are over a billion people living in the country and most are still poor (absolute vs. relative poverty). Miracles don't happen over night.

Regardless if she is making the "best of a bad situation," still dosen't mean people should think it's OK and applaud her for being a "caring mother." If anything it should piss you off that the Chinese govnt, allows shit like this to happen.

^Have you been to China or any third world country? Half the world lives on under $2.50 a day. I bet there are worse stories out there.
In fact, I'd like to see you survive on $16 GBP per month. Oh, and throw in having to take care of a son with mental issues that make him go violent.
