drunkrussian 08-03-2012 06:41 AM

just because someone is rich and commits a foolish action such as leavig shit in the car doesnt mean you should jump all over them, not be sympathetic towards their loss and blame them. rs is full of some of the biggest fucking haters in the city. theres no other way to describe it other than haters

While I would normally agree with you, leaving a brand new laptop in the open is seriously asking for it. I get awkward when I leave my Arcteryx jacket in my backseat whenever I need to simply run into a store for a minute; I can't imagine leaving a two thousand dollar laptop back there at Metrotown. Do poeple not realize that those "car thieves work here" signs and police warnings issued during Christmas season are just as meaningful in August as they are in December? As much as I hate to admit it about our society, we can't leave anything out anymore. The stupidest shit gets stolen, especially in a giant parking lot where the chances of being caught are remote.

I'm willing to bet that they saw the laptop and purse (probably thinking it was the car owners actual purse) and took everything else as a second thought. I used to play the violin for many years, so I feel bad for her on that regard, but... I dunno.

FYI - My car got broken into on Robson Street on a super busy night during a Revscene Mod meet even though there was nothing in the cabin. I suppose I might have a slightly more negative look towards society because of this. I always try to be careful whenever I have to park my car, carparks especially.

not even in the trunk? really?

radioman 08-03-2012 08:53 AM

Watched her interview on the news. She clearly didn't care about the the laptops and when she was describing the violin she was pretty emotional. I hope she finds it.

They had a track on a home in surrey using the macs tracking stuff. Not sure if it was said in the article.

Just watch, she won't then the "community" will "come together" to donate money towards a cause so she can get a new one. All while forgetting about the people that can't actually eat. Internet sob stories so hot right now.

No, netizens are not that kind to stupid people.

freakshow 08-03-2012 09:47 AM

If she didn't have specific, explicit insurance for that violin, then it's gotta be fraud.

But the article says she has a concert next month, so I'm sure she has enough proof that she owned it.. pretty sad. even 50K can't replace a 240 year old instrument..

Akinari 08-03-2012 10:18 AM

Why she would leave a violin, nevermind a 240 year old $50k violin, in her backseat is just ludicrous.

It's like leaving a piano in the back of a truck, so to speak...

spyker 08-03-2012 10:25 AM

I remember many years ago there was a similar incident like this, except the violin that was stolen from a vehicle was valued at 500K or 1 million.....forgot the actual pricetag but it was a insane value.

A £1.2 Million dollar pound Stradivarius... 300 years old.

Errr, ever tried moving a piano by yourself? And when's the last time you heard of a piano being stolen?

AzNightmare 08-03-2012 11:25 AM

^Lol, he was just making a point.

But seriously. Common sense helps. Your vehicle is NOT a secure place to put valuable things inside.
I wouldn't even trust my glove box, because I go to a place to eat, when I come back, my whole vehicle could be gone... So much for the glove box...

?uestlove 08-03-2012 11:27 AM

I'd totally jack a violin just to learn how to play smoke on the water and enter sandman on it

I would not even leave a empty pack of cigarettes in plain sight.last thing I want is some crackhead or hobo smashing my car window for it.

because its stupidly ridiculous..the only 50k thing you would leave in the parking lot is the car itself.

Just her laptops and lv bag alone is worth breaking into

i'm playing the world's smallest violin

buddy 08-03-2012 12:32 PM

^ same here

I took everything with me when I have to leave my car unattended .. no cheap sunglasses; worn jacket, hat, shoes; not a single penny in the coin box with the lid open; no box which remotely give out ideas that actually something is in it ..

might sound crazy but I have paid for a broken window just because someone wanted so badly a pair of beat up runners I worn to gym ...

Culverin 08-03-2012 03:06 PM

I used to play... And let me tell you, it's not just emotional, it more like a symbiosis with your violin.
Whenever i tried somebody elses violin even with my own chin brace and bow, it was just "off".
If i regularly had to move a violin around worth that much, I'd get a light duty safe box welded into my trunk.

It's not just 50k. It's an irreplaceable amount. And any switch will take an adjustment period to get used to.

hirevtuner 08-03-2012 04:05 PM

240 yr old violin, I would expect to place a gps tracking device in case this shit happens
or at least bring it with you at all times

bloodmack 08-03-2012 04:23 PM

i dont even leave my deck face in the car, let alone a laptop..

Nssan 08-03-2012 06:29 PM

if she didn't go to the news, she would have a chance of getting it back through on the consignement shops .. etc.. or cragislist. now, no way in hell !

Whether it's an insurance scam, or she was just plain irresponsible, this is the very exact same reason why your insurance rates go up.

In fact, in the industry, rising claim amounts is always one of the excuses why your insurance rates are always on an inflating trend; however much warranted that is or not.
