If you think parking at the PNE is expensive, wait until you hear about the potential fines for illegally parking in the neighbourhood.
Fines start at $100 for those who illegally park, while residents who allow illegal parking could be smacked with a $2000 fine.
Taryn Scollard with the City of Vancouver says finding alternative transportation might be the way to go.
"So the best way to get to PNE would be to use transit, to bike or to walk. If you do drive your car, it's best to use one of the designated parking lots in the area."
A spot in a designated area costs $20 but many PNE-goers have traditionally paid residents to park on their property.

What classifies as "illegal parking?" Do you mean parking in front of a 'no-parking' sign, or is it illegal to pay a resident to park on their property?

I'm pretty sure it's the illegal to pay a resident to park on their property. A few houses away from mine has been doing this for a while, opening the back fence to let them in lol.

They don't really enforce fines though, they don't have any way of knowing which cars belong to residents and which do not unless they go to doors and knock on them.

And even then, they have no way of knowing that someone paid them to park there....

Oh yeah that too. Theres a bunch of other places to park besides someone's street. A block from my house is an elementary school and they open the gravel field up for parking not sure how much it is though.

iEatClams 08-19-2012 01:19 PM

If you park on the street where it says no parking except for residents, then you get fines. I see tow truck drivers and people going around checking.

They check your license plate and if it's not registered for the block/street, they can ticket you.

However parking in drive-ways /garages, they can't enforce that because it's private property. Plus hard to prove that it's not your friend coming over etc.

You can get fair admission for as low as $13 if you have access to a group discount or work in a building that has group discount tickets.

Paying for parking is for suckers. There's plenty of parking in Burnaby, just on the other side of Boundary Road and it's about a 10-15 minute walk to the fair grounds. Or there's always the bus...

I don't know about anyone else in their 30s, but my stomach can't handle most of the rides these days. The only ride worth going on at least once is the original Coaster. I don't mind paying 10 bucks to get my Coaster fix for the year.

AzNightmare 08-20-2012 05:07 PM

Isn't there some kind of "loophole" to get in through the back gates for free with a horse race gambling membership card.
I borrowed a friend's card to get in like that before in the past, but I don't have one myself so I'm not too familiar about this.
It was a yellow card. Maybe someone else knows more about it. But it's not a honest way to get in though.

And I went yesterday and just parked around Hastings Community Elementary school.
Free parking on the street surrounding the school during non-school hours. And there was a lot of parking available there.
