can you be more specific on "good family car"?

My standard of good is : Reliable, affordable, safety, good gas mileage, luxury.
Luxury Class
1) Lexus ES350
2) Lexus IS250/350
3) Acura TL (3rd Gen)
4) Lexus RX350
5) Acura MDX

Econ Class
1) Toyota Camry
2) Honda Accord
3) Nissan Altima
4) Subaru legacy
5) Toyota Prius V

Toyota camry hybrid would be most practical and half decent when fully loaded, and right in the price range brand new with 8 year/160,000 km warranty .. but its boring as hell to drive.

Acura TL SH-AWD or WRX/STI would definitely get my vote. The TL is obviously more refined, a little bigger and probably worse on gas, the WRX/STI would be fun as hell to drive and probably be just as bad on gas .. maybe a little better.

If I was you, i'd get the camry. Babies cost $$$ atleast save cash on gas/maintenance

personally , used sti / evo or sub models like a wrx or something , AWD/4WD non van / non high centre point of gravity for roll-overs and nothing too old so safety standards are fairly good still

thanks for the comments guys

used or new doesnt matter. ive owned a 02 wrx. pretty cramped in the backseat. so im crossing it out of my list..

keep em coming

i had the audi A8L and a 00-up 7 series in mind too..but i know ill be spending more on gas and maintenance...

i have to keep in mind trunk space for the stroller and baby stuff...most econo sedans lack big trunks...

My brother had the same issue last year. His choices came down to a 2009 Jetta Wagon or 2010 Rav4 V6 Sport. He chose the Rav4 and absolutely loves it. Plenty of room to haul stuff and the thing is actually pretty quick.

This is not what you are asking but seriously consider a second car (assuming baby momma can drive): SUV or minivan

Sienna / Lexus RX

+1 for GTI, good size for driving around town and plenty of fun.
Great blend of sport/mom-drivability (I'd know)
You can get 9.5L/100km in the city on the DSG which IMO is pretty decent but it does take premium

don't get a hyrbrid, they're not here to stay. a newer impreza would be a good car 4 doors, awd, enough power and lots of leg room.
