I play pretty occasionally as well
'Dig Bick Daddy' if any of you trolls want to play with me 
If you're new, play co-op games until you hit around level 15. I believe there isn't a penalty in terms of XP/IP gains when you play co-op during your first few levels.
Try every single type of champion that's free on rotation until you find one that you like, refer to Solomid or Mobafire for builds
Buy wards.
Last hit minions.
Turn on smart-cast in your key bindings, then you're good to go.
