Want to donate a condo's worth of furniture. Now with pictures! Hey people. I want to donate my furniture, which is all in decent condition, to some sort of non-profit, but I'm having a hard time finding one that does pick-ups. An anyone recommend one? Thanks! Edit: Pics! Wife not included: http://img694.imageshack.us/img694/5712/image008fg.jpg Preference to whomever will give this to a charity/people in need, although I need it gone by Saturday @ 12PM. Couch is heavy, by the way. |
Try Big Brother. I've used them in the past. Only thing about furniture is that a lot of charities won't take them unless they're in good condition. |

I checked Big Brother, they only have dates for September, which sucks because I won't be in BC by then. I should have looked at this sooner, but I assumed (wrongly) that especially in this economy charities would be hurting for donations. BC SPCA also does pick-ups. I was kind of hoping the donations would help out humans, but I guess animals are also fine. |

I had to get rid of all of my furniture from my rental property and they wouldn't take it. Furniture was in decent to good shape too. I ended up just giving it away to friends and family. |

What about organizations that help homeless people directly, like churches and stuff. Do these exist here? |

Most larger charities are that picky because if they aren't a lot of people would just use them as junk removers and most don't see the benefit in allocating the storage space needed when they can just accept cash, food or small household goods. Smaller charities/churches/homeless organizations that can make use of furniture, usually do not have the funds or manpower to do pickups or facilities. The ones that will accept will require you to drop it off. You're probably best to give away to friends or just pay a junk remover a fee. |
You can always post on Craigslist for free, whoever is picking it probably can't afford one. |
most charities also won't take glass furniture. i guess they're picky on furniture b/c the movers are volunteers and truck/gas $ has to come from somewhere and don't want to be treated as a free garbage removal service. |
Place a add on CL,even if you put a a low price on the stuff,it will all be gone in one day. |
Posting free items on CL can be a bit iffy, I remember when my buddy posted his 50+ inch CRT TV online for free, a bunch of sketched out weirdos replied and the guys that did show up to get it where just a pain in the ass to deal with and seemed pretty cracked out. Personally I'd just pay a junk remover to get rid of it if no friends want it |
I'll probably post stuff for $10. At least that was my brother's suggestion. |
wait I need a couch. pics? |
I probably called every charity/thrift store around the burnaby area when we had a couple bookshelves to get rid of when we were moving. Good, clean stuff too. But nobody would take it. I ended up destroying it and giving it to some friends who were going camping...but that's because I was short on time. If the place you live in now allows it, you can always leave it out with a sign that says free. Hopefully someone takes it. |
No seriously take a pic, I'm renovating and need a new couch and a desk. |
I need some new furniture too so let us know! |
Just noticed my cat ripped the couch and the chair, when I took the covers off. I'll have an Ikea glass table and a dresser set. Pics later. Pains to trash the couch, so comfy lol. |
People don't use the waste transfer stations have as much as they should.. I have a regular 6 foot bed pickup truck with a canopy, for me to "dispose" of my entire truck loaded with water logged 6X6 posts which in total probably weighed like 1500 pounds it cost $35 at the 192 transfer station If you have a truck disposal of shit is dirt cheap |
I need a TV Stand :fullofwin: |
Craigslist has always worked for me. i had a massively heavy and awkward sofabed in my basement and two seemingly sketchy guys were happy to remove it for me |
Lol.. anything half decent will be gone same day (within hours) on CL for free. Even weird things like bricks.. I posted 1000 free bricks in "as-is" condition (4/10 because they were patio pavers) and they were gone within 45 minutes. If your afraid of sketchy people.. have a friend there to protect you. :troll: |
Post for cheap on CL like $20 to $50 that way the werdo won't show up and you make some small change I guess. |
I've posted many items for free on CL and gotten lots of responses. I go through them and search out the one that I feel would benefit the most. I've gone as far as checking them on facebook or googling them to see if they are legit. I gave away an old CRT tv and stand to a mexican guy who was very greatful. Gave away old carpet to a guy who needed the insulation for his garage band. Gave away an old table and chairs to a teacher who thought she could use it in her classroom. |
does your condo allow items to be placed outside with the "free" sticker on it? I moved from a house to a condo, one day i placed all my items outside and had just had a sign that said "free". went out for lunch and almost half the items were gone. And as others mentioned, CL is good too. Just make sure to use common sense and im sure you wont run into too much trouble with people. |
If you post some pics on revscene, I'm sure some people would want some of your stuff. CL is good, but too many "poo miners". |
I think its best to take a pic of all your furnitures on here! :p |
