even Mike Holmes approved homes are junk

eayh was just reading that... dang the brand name is getting ruined.

JDMDreams 01-30-2024 03:26 PM

What was special about him? I never watched his shows, I just thought he was famous cuz his name was close to "homes"

Hondaracer 01-30-2024 03:33 PM

He pumped products and like those inspectors we mentioned previously, he did shit so over the top in the sake of “doing it right” that he basically became a meme among actual builders.

The dumbest shit I ever saw on his show was his knob kid was building his own house and Mike forced him to go with a metal roof VS traditional shingles etc. his argument was it will last x amount t of years etc.

The fucking bill for the roof was like the cost of 4 duroid shake roofs :lol

Yea, “doing it right” for some fucking shitty little house your son builds you tell him to install a 50k roof? Fuck off

We were wowed over by the finishing in this house. Marble walls, marble floors, modern aesthetics, etc. When we did the home inspection, the guy gave it a good bill of health but the more i live here, the more little shit things i find that annoying the fuck out of me.

I wish i bought a chinese builder home instead. Like seriously. i honestly think they do way better work. Only problem is their aesthetic choices are questionable half the time and we didnt want to build on our existing lot (time, cost overrun, smaller lot, feng shui reasons, etc)

Well i sent Tiny on a mission to find a new dryer vent hose. She came back with this and due to her small size, i was able to get her to hook it on and keep an eye on it while I push the dryer in straight. We used a metal pole to kinda align it while I pushed till we couldnt and then hopefully due to its already compressed shape, its straight. Testing now to see if all is well.

It’s crazy that this day and age there isn’t a better way to hook up washer/dryer connections lol..

When we were building townhomes we installed these stackers that BARELY fit into the laundry closet, you’d have to tilt them to get them in. The installer this 100lb older philipeano guy was the installer the supplier used. One time he asked me to stick around because his helper wasn’t there. This fucking guy had me tilt the washer and dryer outward so he could climb up and slither over the top of the unit, make the connection then proceed to scale the backside and give me direction as to when to tilt it so he could slide back out

its all because of that stupid piece of marble on top of the washer and dryer. If it wasnt for this piece of junk, it would be easy peasy. but noooooO!!! people want a piece of marble on top of their washer and dryer so they can put trash / fold clothes / hoard junk

underscore 01-30-2024 07:20 PM

I can't tell from the pic but how is the countertop attached? I always figured it would be better if the laundry room ones were made to sit on a lip like a shelf vs being hard mounted so you could pop it off for stuff like this.

I'm personally not a fan of this design language for the reasons you listed above. It may appear to be practical at first, but once you start the hoarding journey (like any Asian family does) it's game over. And when it comes to routine maintenance and repairs, good luck (as you experienced.)

LG washer/dryers are fantastic - they're to laundry what Bosch is to dishwashers.

RabidRat 01-30-2024 08:25 PM

Hell yeah. Love the shit out of our LG washer/dryer and Bosch dishwasher.

Fuck our Miele stovetop and speed oven though. The controls are outrageously difficult to use :/.

Badhobz 01-30-2024 08:44 PM

What’s the difference between LG and Samsung ? That piece of shit plastic vent hose is from LG.

I don’t even know the difference.
Oh so the new hose / cleaning the vent probably fixed it. No more flow sensor errors and it seems to dry much better than before.

Doesn't Bosch have washer and dryers thought :lawl:

donk. 01-30-2024 10:15 PM

LG should be avoided like the plague in all categories of home appliances.
Shit company, shit support, and absolute garbage products

LG = Lousy Garbage

RabidRat 01-30-2024 11:18 PM

I have a 47" LG TV I bought for $600 back in 2012 at a Walmart.

Nearly 12 years later, connecting all kinds of stuff to it, watching 3D porn, the works, it's still working flawlessly. Which actually kind of sucks, in that I've been waiting years for it to die so I can buy a better one.

Btw LG is (was) "Lucky Goldstar" :D.

I think condenser dryer is different than heat pump? Our heat pump unit, even at the longest, extra-dry mode doesn't go beyond 2hrs.

Dunno about other things, but LG washer/dryer have been nothing but top-notch to us.

The house we used to live had LG washer/dryers... 5yrs old and runs every time like day 1 and we were there for like 2yrs.

Then we bought our current place and moved. We had some fancy top of the line Samsung that the original owner got about 2 and half year before we bought the place. Half year in, conveniently just outside of the warranty period, the dryer goes kaput. Called someone in for repair, replaced some stuff... 300bucks everything in.

Another 3mth goes by, this time the washer breaks. Called in for repair, another 350.

Then about half a year later... both unit went out again. This time, circuit board problem... cost to fix both, 700. I was like... :fuckthatshit: And just in time Costco had the 20% off anything online and I ordered a LG pair and they are just like the LG units I had before just instead of regular dryer, it was a heat pump unit. Perfect so far.

I think it was LG that has a mini washer pedestal thing, which sounded pretty awesome in theory. Not sure if it actually works as advertised.

It washes $700 out of your wallet. I can see the appeal though, for small loads or 1-2 specialty items.

My LG washer/dryer set has had no issues at all, while my brother's Samsung dryer has had no shortage of issues since he bought it.

Hondaracer 01-31-2024 04:31 PM

lol why would you buy a front loader and then buy the pedestal?

Out of pure aesthetics?

hud 91gt 01-31-2024 04:33 PM

What is this pedestal?

Do people buy new washers after a Caesarian? Maybe I don’t give my wife enough credit. She complained a bit, but didn’t really stop her from doing much. Maybe I’m just a dick. Hahaha.

The pedestals are convenient as it provides additional storage and enough clearance for a laundry basket directly infront of the opened doors. You also do not need to bend over as far in order to remove everything. Your step-bro might not like that though.

Hondaracer 01-31-2024 05:54 PM

I tried to have auto correct fix it like 5 times and finally said fuck it :lol
