1 can per wheel. Don't listen to ^ unless you want to have it peel off it tiny pieces. |
I used 6 cans and still could have used more (2 white, 4 orange) |
I'm even considering using 1.5 or 2 cans per wheel next time, it will just mean it\s thicker, more protective, easier to peel off etc. |
I love plastidipping small exterior parts, but vinyl wrap is 10x better for interior trims. I would imagine wrapping front grilles would be nearly impossible with all the slats/bars, plastidipping the grilles is as easy as pie. Plastidipped my interior door handle bars and it felt too rubbery, sprayed it again and again, texture looked better and ended up being perfect as I learned how to do it but it still feels too rubbery. Gave up and bought a 5ft by 6ft (like a queen size bed) roll of carbon fiber for $15 (pretty much how much a can of plastidip goes for locally) and it ended up being perfect in one go using a heatgun. |
If you've got troubles with peeling, goo gone can take off the tricky spots :) Keep in mind that you may have to wax the area after. |
My biggest mistake was dipping my wheels which have about a billion spokes... (these guys... same wheel, not my pic, nor bmw) http://www.e90post.com/forums/attach...1&d=1354227935 |
I've had yellow on my car for awhile now and I don't wash my car I just go thru car washes and have had a issue yet. No tearing from the jet streams yet only issue I have had so far is the stupid daycare across the street and the little kids there touching and messing with my car |
Question for you all who have used this stuff, particularly for people who have tried using it on interior trims: Does this stuff have a lingering odor when used on interior trims? I plan to do my center console trim. Tried to go the vinyl route but it doesn't conform to the shape of the console as well as I would like. I don't want to drive around with the fumes if it lingers after painting. If there is, I guess I would have to plan ahead to spray it and drive around for a couple days without the trim. -KC |
if you plan on doing interior stuff, leave the windows open overnight till it dries. When it's not fully dried, the vapors are harmful too. Posted via RS Mobile |

I don't know how you're spraying your wheels, but the dip peels off fine for me.. |
:derp: |
^Is that a picture of you? |
A buddy of mine is thinking of dipping his car. Anyone know where to buy Gallons of it? We only managed to find a couple rattle cans of black. |

Gallons are more expensive and hard to find, i'd try Dipyourcar.com and ship to point roberts. |

To people who are wondering what happens if you VINYL WRAP or PAINT over plastidipped parts: All the pores that you can BARELY see on the original plastidipped part will become EXTREMELY noticeable. For example, to my eyes the plastidipped part was 95% smooth under direct sunlight, but when vinyl wrapped/painted it looked like sponge bob... |
don't paint over dip or dip over paint it will not work right |
you sure? there are tons of cars that are painted and dipped |
What? Why can't you dip over paint...? |
LOL. I dont think he meant you can't dip over paint, but then again I can't figure out what he did mean... |
Maybe he means to take your car back to bare metal for dipping it? :troll: |
We have been doing some plastidip projects at our shop lately with some really nice results! If you need anything plastidipped we have a lot of product in stock as well as smoke clear and clearcoat. We recently clearcoated some brand new foglights to protect from rock chips and damage. Worked amazingly well! Stay tuned for more pics of our projects! Stephon's Civic: |
Sorry should of been more clean. I meant don't paint over dip cause it won't work and don't dip over anything that's been painted without allowing a couple days to dry and set. I painted my engine cover blue than dipped all the letters black. Let the engine cover dry for 2 days but when I lifted off the dip all the paint went with it as well. Posted via RS Mobile |
Did my roof in matte black..didn't turn out as nice as I'd hoped. Used about 3 cans. Little streaky up close..would've been more even with a proper spray gun. Working on a horizontal surface didn't make matters better. Also sprayed some 20" chrome wheels with a fairly wide dish from chrome to matte black, turned out pretty good. Nice stealthy blacked out look on the Bimmer now. http://i87.photobucket.com/albums/k1...psb4342a53.jpg http://i87.photobucket.com/albums/k1...psd4b6301a.jpg http://i87.photobucket.com/albums/k1...psa46cc1a6.jpg http://i87.photobucket.com/albums/k1...psa1d0b2a3.jpg http://i87.photobucket.com/albums/k1...psdc845e25.jpg |
