If you want the setting to survive a reboot, you need to make the change in the build.prop, which is located in \SYSTEM folder, which means you need root to access it.

Here are a few other caveats, while you're on LTE:
1) mobile network location doesn't work, so that means anything that requires it stops working. (For example, Google Now)
2) Mobile Hotspot (tethering) also doesn't work because the required rules don't get added. Yep...you need root again to get around that.

I don't know about you..but hardly the LTE support that everybody is hoping for.

For me, I'd like to make the switch to the n4 because of:
  • IPS screen > AMOLED imo
  • the build quality on the n4 seems wayyyyyy better than the s3
  • updates straight from google
  • LTE aside, it's the fastest android device atm
It's funny how people keep saying the N4 has better "build quality" when its the most fragile of any Android device to-date. People seem to focus on how solid a device feels in their hand, rather than durability. There's a reason why most electronic devices are made of plastic, and it's not because they hate their customers and want to make a cheap device.

Plastic is light-weight, cost efficient (to manufacture and replace), difficult to scratch, flexible, it doesn't interfere with antennas and it can sure take a beating. Materials like Poly carbonate, or ceramic may one day replace plastic, but it'll be a while until they are as cost efficient as plastic.

In 2 weeks of babying my N4, I found my first scratch on the back. I never bothered with body skins or screen protectors for my phones, but after realizing how easily this thing scratches, I actually bought a XOskin for it...my first ever wet application skin.

I hate how glossy the skin looks, I hate how rubbery it feels, and I hate how the skin itself shows every scratch/scuff/grease mark for a few days before it "self heals" (and by then, new marks will show up). But it's a necessary evil if I plan to sell my N4 in a year for the next Nexus device.

People really need to stop suggesting the phone has LTE like it was designed to. It only works on one band, and it has to be enabled by a tweak that doesn't stick unless you're rooted.
Also, don't be surprised if LTE functionality suddenly disappears because Google finds a way to stop it.
It was an accidental feature, and will most likely be wiped by Google in a future update since the phone wasn't officially cleared for LTE use. There's a reason why they didn't advertise LTE in the first place, and we may never know it, but since it's not cleared by the FCC (or whatever body governs certification), you can't rely on LTE being available forever.

I have to disagree. Glass and metal are far more expensive than plastic, which is why manufacturers use it less than plastic. It helps their bottom line. While you're correct that manufacturers don't hate their customers and would like to give them a product that somewhat lasts, they definitely use plastic knowing it's cheaper than other materials.

And with a glass front and back, you're bound to get hairline scratches. It's just wear and tear of a device. As a person who uses a phone for a while (i.e. I don't resell it), I care very much about how a device feels in hand since I'll be handling it for hours a day.

I'm not sure if you had or handled an S3, but every time I take the back off it feels like I'm going to snap the back in half. Sure plastic may not shatter like glass or dent like metal, but I'd take the latter two materials over plastic on a phone any day.

I have to agree here as well. Using better materials doesnt automatically mean better BUILD quality.

Think of it as a house. A house in west van can use expensive external sidings, expensive detailed architectural mouldings everywhere but the actual fit and finish can be shit leaving gaps everywhere, creaky mouldings/doors etc. Does that mean it has excellent build quality? No. Just quality MATERIALS. Yes, there is a difference.

On the other hand, just because it uses glass doesnt mean its got bad build quality either, it just means you need to baby it that much more compared to a phone that is mostly plastic.

That was one thing I disliked right away with the N4. Its bad enough that we have to protect a glass screen. A glass back is just twice the worry.
I would've much preferred to see a plastic backing.

This is true, but you also forgot to mention that they're also thinking of the customers when they design these. The average consumer doesnt really care THAT much about their phones. I'll bet 80% of people walk into a rogers/fido/bell just wanting a phone that works. Alot of these people can also be careless with their phones but they also want it to last. Plastic will survive more drops than glass will before it needs to be replaced. IMO plastic backs get used for longevity.

Just today I accidentally dropped my phone out of my friend's car.

But I have a Gnex with an Otterbox, and my phone is just as pristine as it was before.. I'm not planning on upgrading to the N4 until there's an otterbox-like case for it. I have a habit of not treating my phones well enough to risk it until then.

And yet people that own these phones made of "premium materials" buy cases and protection to cover it all up. In the end, you're not holding the device anymore..you're holding the case with a phone inside of it. What's even funnier is all these cases are all yep...you guessed it....plastic based.

If you're brave enough to go naked, you'll end up with a phone with battle scars all over it. Some will call it a phone with "character" - I call it a phone with no re-sale value.

I would much rather hold a naked plastic phone than a glass/aluminum phone wrapped with plastic protection.
My Galaxy Nexus was immaculate, and although I bought a hard case for it, I never used it because I didn't like the bulk it added. It was naked 90% of the time I owned it.

Like !Yaminashi said, I'd rather not have to worry about babying my phone. I just want to use it and put it away/down instead of having to inspect every surface or pocket for something that can scratch it.

Sold my Note II today and just started using my Nexus 4 that was still sealed in box.
Note II was a beast of a phone and the screen was just gorgeous. I sold it because I was never be able to hold it with one hand securely and was always afraid it's going to slip out of my hands. Plus I feel like I need a manpurse to carry it around lol.
Nexus 4 feels so much better in my hands.

Noticed 2 things about it already.
1. buzzing sound coming from the charger
2. Light bleed from the top of the screen

anyone else have any issues?

Buzzing from charger I can live with, the light bleeding? Is that normal? wonder if it is worth it to claim warranty

A few things I noticed

-earpiece buzzes when making phone call
-can't assign custom sound for someone when messaging, can only assign custom ringtone which plays for calls/texts/msgs
-there is no number indicators above the email/text/msg icon on the home screen to let you know how many messages are pending
