B.C. border guard struck with same bullet that killed shooter | CTV News

"The Canadian border guard shot in her booth at the Douglas Border Crossing in Surrey, B.C. was struck by the same bullet the shooter used to kill himself.
A source at the Customs and Immigration Union that represents Canadian border guards told CTV News that a male suspect shot himself in the head and the bullet hit the guard accidentally."

This sounds like he shot himself through the throat and it hit her.

No clue right now, he was prob some crazy American that was pissed off at Canada so he thought he would go out like a coward and a bitch.

Unless we find a suicide note that says "fuck cross border shopping" we will probably never know. Thankfully, he didn't miss the important target.

You just got shot. The remote chance that he had aids and enough of it stayed on the bullet and managed to infect you, blood testing not catching it and the anti virals not working and then then the triple cocktail not working aswell is the least of your problems. Getting aids/hiv is not even a death sentence any more.

anything can change the trajectory of the bullet. Depending on the type of bullet used plays a big factor as well. Something like a full metal jacket will penetrate flesh easily and hit anything beyond the intended target.

Well I'm glad to hear that the border guard is expected to make a full recovery but unfortunately the mental pain and suffering will remain with her for the rest of her life which imo is worst than the physical pain she's enduring now.

There's a lot of ignorant posts here and some fucked up things being report.

The media is reporting that an anonymous person from the Customs and Immigration Union stated that the bullet that struck the BSO "hit the officer accidentally". The union is in no position to make any comment concerning an RCMP investigation. I highly doubt that it was accidental. From what has been reported by the RCMP and actual witness accounts, two shots were fired. The first struck the BSO and the second was where the subject killed himself. He killed himself after being surrounded by armed officers.

No one commits suicide by shooting themself in the throat; they would put the gun to their head.

If anyone from the union is releasing unauthorized information to the media should lose their job. Nothing is worth comprising the RCMP's investigation.

About 2100 of the approx 4800 BSO's are armed. All land-mode BSO's will be armed by 2016. Armed BSO's are not paid more than unarmed BSO's.

There will be a greater push to get more BSO's armed over the next several months. Its not because of this incident but because a gun range at the CBSA training facility in Rigaud Qc was just completed.

For those saying that the shooter must have known the BSO and this wasn't random, shut the fuck up. How many times have you crossed the border knowing exactly who's working in that given booth. The booths all have tinted windows and inner optional shades. Until you pull up to the booth, you won't know who is working there. It didn't matter who was working in that booth - they were going to be shot.

I hope this BSO has a speedy recovery and a great career with the agency.

No mention of shooting himself in the neck and his bullet hitting her, etc and it reports that he shot himself after other border guards had their weapons drawn and were yelling at him to get on the ground.
