Possible explosive device found on SkyTrain tracks - News1130

A possible pipebomb has been found on the SkyTrain tracks in Surrey.

Explosive experts have been called in to deal with the situation.

Transit Police Cst. Ann Drennan says, "It has some wires and straps and there appears to be a small propane tank that is part of this device."

She says the device was spotted by someone who immediately notified a station attendant.

The line is closed between Scott Rd. and Gateway stations.

Coast Mountain Bus Company has set up a bus bridge between Gateway and Scott Rd.

Drew Snider with TransLink says Expo Line trains are running from Waterfront to Scott Rd. and from Gateway to King George.

The skytrain is shut down between Scott Road and Gateway stations as police deal with a suspicious package,
Surrey RCMP Sargeant Drew Grainger says, "it is just a little bit west of Scott Road skytrain station where we have a located suspiciously strapped together three propane tanks - obviously not a normal occurance. To err on the side of caution, knowing how explosive propane tanks can be, we have cordoned the area off, limiting access to pedestrians and motorists"
Grainger says the police bomb squad is en route and he expects the area to be locked down until at least 4:30 this afternoon.
Translink has a bus bridge set up to shuttle commuters between the two stations until the police incident is dealt with.
EDIT: Updated with new info

And this is the mentality that will hinder us from ever getting any sort of decent transit system around Vancouver. Go on the Skytrain at 7AM and 90% of the people on there are in suits. Hardly homeless.

Anjew 11-02-2012 09:12 PM

wait what? another one?

Anjew 11-02-2012 09:14 PM

some of em wearing suits without taking a bath... i think the point is sharing the bus with strangers is a negative aspect of transit.
