I was there today. My god what a gong show. The people occupying Oppenheimer Park with their tents are not people from the neighbourhood. Pretty belligerent, even by the standards of the DTES. It's my old neighbourhood of 16 years. I cannot believe how the area has changed, too. I almost caused a war today. Long story, but they were being complete assholes. It's going to be interesting tomorrow. I think the Powell Street Festival organizers are being very respectful of the protest/tent city/occupation/whatever movement by working around that fricken eyesore. As soon a tribal flag (Oka?) goes up, you know there's going to be trouble. I'm not even going to get into it. Hopefully, there will be peace. Nobody from the festival side is going to go to tent city, that's for sure, but my fear is the protesters will come over and cause shit, because that's what they do. ........... must have more faith. In other news, that Powell Street Overpass............ no more stopping for trains. Well worth the wait. I drove over it today and what a view! |
Anything beyond Dunlevy can burn down for all I care, Postmark is as far east as I go |
Vancouver Pride Parade: What you need to know - British Columbia - CBC News Pride parade's tomorrow (does this count as multicultural?) |
Lol I thought it said multicartual events thread and I thought it was going to be a meet where we all got ripped on blow and went to No.5 Orange. |

Not multicultural but can be. Italian? Anyway, Hats Off Day in North Burnaby today. Way better than any night market. This event and the Langley Cruise In are my favourite. There's something for everyone. Even mainlanders, although they have to cross that bridge. Nuff said. |
Italian Days today. Commercial Drive is shut down to traffic till 11:00 pm. Who says Vancouver is a no fun city? |
Wish I could go. Ferraris and pizza are two of my favourite things. |
I went to Moja Coffee at 7:15am on Commercial Drive, only to be stared down by the Italian guys in the car I drove (and the bike I did not ride.) But maybe because they closed the streets off and I gave zero fucks and drove down it anyway. :okay: + :fuckyea: |
Vancouver Greek Summerfest starts July 2nd, this year. Goes till July 12th. Vancouver Greek Summerfest ? Live a Day the Greek Way! |
Start of spring soon......... post any local events in this thread. Impress your gf, spouse, whatever, about your knowledge of cool local events. |
A friend told me about this event: Festival du Bois, this weekend, Mar. 5-6: French-Canadian festival in Coquitlam, including quebecois food like maple syrup taffy and poutine, and other related activities and music; Festival du Bois |
Should bring some BC BIG MAPLE to show them what west coast local maple syrup is all about. |

Yeah, what a crock of shit. $15.00 to get in to go buy some poutine? That's one way to kill a festival. |

Hats Off Day today in North Burnaby. Parade, too. Hats Off Day | Burnaby's Biggest Festival | Burnaby Heights |
