Hitting a wild animal :(.. ANIMAL lovers be warned.

Was on my way to Mcdicks last night after work. In Maple Ridge, these 2 dogs/coyotes popped out of nowhere and one got hit Had no time to react at all.

For those that must know I was traveling under speed limit
I feel bad that it got killed and damaged my car too

Spoiler!

Can't be 100% certain that it was a coyote. What do you guys think? It had no collars, tags.. but it was way too well fed to be a coyote. Either way.. called police and icbc. Police did not show up after 2 hours. I stayed at the scene.. no owner came looking for it either. RIP.

I hope ICBC will replace/ or willing to repair my lip. Hard to get these..

604-326-4710 for dead animals or road kill from city of Vancouver.

Yes, impact w. animals domesticated or non, living or dead is covered under comprehensive coverage. Whatever your deductible is so i'd start looking for Ads selling your LIP, bumper & other acc for ur suby

ICBC | Comprehensive coverage

could be a malamute RIP

Wasn't a malamute. It was really small. Smaller than any regular husky. I have 2 dogs myself.. 300 deductible.. but we'll see.. i might end up fixing the lip myself.. not go thru ICBC>

well big props for actually having a heart and staying to report it instead of just leaving the poor dog there. Really unfortunate for you and the owners, rip

That could very well be coyote, and looks like one to me I've passed many coyotes -alive and dead- over the years, and some have looked extremely close to that.

Just because it appears to be well fed, doesn't mean it ISN'T a coyote.

There is so much shit for these guys to eat/scavange in urban areas, not to mention peoples cats and other small animals that live in urban areas too, rodents, etc.

It's a shitty deal, and it happens

At least you manned up about it, and did the right thing... which doesn't fix your car, which just adds to the shittyness

if it was a dog.. probably a stray. if its not.. owner`s negligence ultimately cost this dogs's life. im just upset that i am the big part of it. drop by the site on my way home from work. city cleared up the body. no notes by owner or anything.

Does not look like a husky at least.

I would say its more coyote then a husky.

Even that pic of a husky that was linked. Look how small the snout is on the dead animal compared to the picture of the husky. and the difference in the legs.

my money is on Coyote

Sorry to hear, whether it is a coyote or dog it sucks. hope the cosmetics are easy finds for your subaru

End of the day, you weren't injured, the Animal died instantly and painlessly, The damage to the car is repairable.

That's a coyote for sure. Seen enough of those in Burnaby Mountain area fighting over a soon-to-be-dead cat.

considering you say "2 dogs/coyo came out of no where" ima have to go and say theyre coyotes. rarely do i hear of animals crossing the road if a car is coming

rip, but I had friends where coyotes ate their pets. I don't have much sympathy for wild dogs in urban areas. That one being so well fed, you probably extended the life of many other small pets

Did some googling.

Could be coyote!

My redneck foreman probably would have got out of his truck and started skinning the thing.

I know of a few that like to hunt, or have a den, fairly close to Lougheed around the Pitt River bridge. They like to hang around the shoulder and try to cross the bloody highway sometimes, even with the concrete center divider. Brave little shits.
