LFA lovers.. This is how an oil change is done

Wow.. gotta roll the car in the bay, then drain, fill, warm up engine, drain and fill again..

Prolowtone 11-22-2012 04:04 AM

HUH.... they did not design that to be to easy hahahaha

88SupraT 11-22-2012 05:56 AM

WOW that's gotta be an expensive oil 18L mobil 1 (3 boxes with 6 bottles each) and two filters and would be interesting to now exactly how long it took without the fast forward of the video. I'm guessing they rolled the car in on the dollies because they didn't want to risk hitting the wheels or body on the hoist if they drove it on.

From the video description:

"It takes a good 30 minutes to even get it on the rack and then the oil change takes about 2 1/2 to 3 hours."

FishTaco 11-22-2012 06:42 AM

That oil was daaarrk.

Love the location of the oil filters.

Soundy 11-22-2012 06:43 AM

Most expensive part of the job is the fact that it apparently takes 3-4 guys to do it...

StylinRed 11-22-2012 06:49 AM

so a $1000+ oil change

Now I feel so ghetto using 2x4s to get on the hoist :okay:

kakucaekz 11-22-2012 09:19 AM

Oil filters location is so cool, lol. I just hope it was the owner revving it :okay:

fliptuner 11-22-2012 10:23 AM

Good for the engineers for making it so straight forward.

european 11-22-2012 10:46 AM

sweet. I want a hoist in my garage :(

vantrip 11-22-2012 11:37 AM

Damn it, thought i could take a loan to buy it and cheap out on the oil change by taking it to jiffy lube. there goes that idea. :okay:

sonick 11-22-2012 11:41 AM

lol should take it into Jiffy Lube for a change and see their reaction.

usually the owner drives into these quick oil change place and drives it out.. so the crash would be on the owners fault..

benwang 11-22-2012 12:25 PM

any safety recall yet?:ahwow:

xjc11 11-22-2012 12:50 PM

I read factory fill is m1 5w-50 and it costs around 6-10 per quart. Idk why they charge $1000 for an oil change

Phil@rise 11-22-2012 02:09 PM

They put it on pump jacks because the car is too low to get on their hoist and its much safer than tryin to drive onto 2x4's

donjalapeno 11-22-2012 02:39 PM

go damn, even changing its oil is bausss.

on a side note, i still cant stand the rear end of the LFA but front and interior is :sweetjesus:

HondaGuy 11-22-2012 02:47 PM

Blue LFA = SEX!!!

Dealership has to be careful or else they will pay for damages...thats why pump jacks are necessary.
I recall an audi mechanic telling me that only certain qualified techs can work on certain cars. When a tech is well trained/took necessary courses can he work on the audi r8, probably similar to the lfa.

tofu1413 11-22-2012 02:55 PM

^ you are indeed correct.

Just like how only certified techs can touched more specialized cars: GT-R, Carrera GT etc.

Yodamaster 11-22-2012 02:58 PM

Still easier than changing out the spark plugs in an S10.

knight604 11-22-2012 03:03 PM

Dat yellow interior.

CorneringArtist 11-22-2012 03:59 PM

There's only two Lexus techs in Canada certified to work on the LFA. Paid accomodations when they get flown in for work

are one of them located in Vancouver?

after watching, it's doesn't appear to be that bad to do the oil change on the LF-A. it just takes time to do prepping for hoist, and a little bit of assistance for panel removal. the extra guy was there to assist, purely as a precaution I'm sure. I can totally see the oil change being done by one person only. and I was very impressed to see that the oil filters used appear to be fairly standard off the shelf Toyota filters. and look, an oil dipstick too!
