Monkey nutz racing?

Anyone here had any experience with this shop? i did a search and found nothing. A friend of a friend has had a real real shitty deal with these guys, and now i'm trying to fix it. Before I go on a rant about the issues we're having with his car, wondering if they are they a reputable shop, or if it's just a bunch of kids pretending to know how to run a shop?

I only ask because i've never heard of the shop and some pretty shitty work has been done to the car in question

jing 12-07-2012 10:56 PM

IIRC the shop in question was formerly known as Z-Tune, or the head guys anyway

and i have to add, this isn't intended as a bash thread, i know how these get. I was just asked to look at a MAF wiring issue and found a whole ton of problems, that shouldn't be there after a shop has taken $9k for an engine rebuild and is expecting another $8k when the car is barely running

Iceman-19 12-07-2012 11:18 PM

Its definitely a bash thread. They fucked up a buddies engine in his skyrine, and he spent an assload of money there.

Prolowtone 12-08-2012 07:06 AM

My friend went there to get work done on his car... Few little things but nothing that bad, guess he got lucky?

GabAlmighty 12-08-2012 04:13 PM

I was told he was the non retards from Z-Tune that went there :e-shrug:

boostfever 12-08-2012 05:39 PM

called them a bunch of times to take my car there but never heard back from them. no matter how busy a shop is, they should still manage to call or email their customers back.
didn't bother after that.

orgasm_donor 12-08-2012 10:09 PM

Had some basic stuff done there like lowering springs and oil change etc...

No complaints. Yuri is professional and courteous.

Konvict 12-12-2012 04:43 PM

nothing but good things to say about the shop and juri- lots of members from niclub.ca go there for work. maybe post on niclub.ca will get better feedback thre

MonkeyNutz

Had a Centerforce clutch installed at MonkeyNutz and have had nothing but problems since. Yuri has been great to deal with but Sean is starting to be a dick. Car is there now as clutch pedal sticks to floor and at times extremely difficult or impossible to shift. Have had to pump clutch pedal in order to get into gear. Clutch was low on fluid when they checked it yesterday and showed no signs of leak. They had originally had trouble bleeding it.

Any suggestions I could pass on to them would be great.

meme405 03-03-2015 11:31 AM

This thread is pretty old, I along with many others have had nothing but good experiences within the past 2 years with Monkey Nutz.

Sean has always been professional and courteous with me, he even managed to stay open late, and come pick me up when I had difficulty getting back to their shop one saturday to retrieve my vehicle. Definitely went above and beyond to make sure I was happy.

As for suggestions on what to do with your clutch, maybe a Make and model for the vehicle would help us with that.

These good and bad experiences I feel usually come down to the customer as well....monkey nutz isn't anything big time, but they are certainly a busy shop.

They built one of my old GTR's, work on my R34, and have even helped me with things on my daily drivers. Like anything, you give them business and your customer experience usually blossoms into bigger and better things.

I think the average tuner car owner thinks their problems are always more concerning then the next guy. I understand the frustration of a problem not being fixed trust me though....

Yuri: excellent person, very personable and always wants to do the best job.

Shawn: another great person, a bit sarcastic and doesn't like people who are stupid lol

These guys aren't dumb, they do know what to do. But if your not willing to work on your car yourself be prepared to pay money. If you complain later that you have spent all this and that and its still not right....its probably because you still need to spend more to make it right.

I've dealt with them a few times. I've got nothing but great things to say about them.

They do good work and they seem to have fair prices.

Customer service seems pretty good, I hear that they're a shop that is very well known for dealing with Nissan's (mostly skylines)? Seems like a bunch of G/Z guys take their car over there for tuning. The guys there seem courteous and friendly, but I'm not too sure about the tune. Had mine tuned there with Uprev and wasn't very satisfied, I don't know if it's the car or the tuner though..

A lot of Nissan/Infiniti guys go to MonkeyNutz, especially for tunes, because it's the only shop in BC recognized as an OSIRIS Pro Tuner, which means that they have the most access and experience in tuning these cars in the lower mainland. If you aren't happy with the tune, I don't think you will find somewhere else that will do a better job.

They just do so much work on Nissan vehicles that they know the cars inside and out.

That's not to say Nissan cars are all they know. The guys themselves own a variety of cars, and every time I am there, there is something crazy and wild they are working on.

+1 for monkey nutz
Sean, Yuri and Jackie are great guys.
Sean and Yuri helped me on a few occasions. Even provided me with a free rubber intake adapter after he had notified me my oem one had a small rip in it.

I had to "rescue" a 510 from Z-Tune.

No clue on the current shop.

SpartanAir 03-09-2015 11:55 AM

I've been taking my cars to Z-Tune, and now Monkeynutz for years, I think Sean and Juri are awesome. They worked on my GT-R, my President, my Subaru Legacy, and now my Stagea. Definitely have a specialty in Nissan/Infiniti, but will work on everything.

They've always been super nice to me, enjoy chatting about cars, and are passionate about what they do.

Sure, there have been some issues along the way, but that is to be expected when owning an older car. Anything that was caused by them they've been more than happy to make it right and make sure I'm satisfied. I always feel what they charge me is fair and have hooked me up on parts and have even thrown the car up on the hoist multiple times to fix or adjust something at no charge.

Only thing I will say is that they can get overbooked and every once in a while I have to wait longer than I was told to get my car back, but so it happens with a busy shop. I'd rather they do it right than rush anything.

They have been supposedly working on the same issue with my car for a year. I have taken it back over six times and they have not fixed it. Wanna be mechanics. Each time it is a different excuse why they didn't fix it. They had no problem taking my money though.

rriggi 05-12-2015 09:17 AM

What is this same issue^^ ?? I don't hand my keys over to mechanics often, and esp "wanna-be mechanics". So you should further describe what's wrong...

Sean and Jurie have worked on my GTR and did a fantastic job, they fixed 95% of the issues I had first go around, and then gave me advice of where to go from there. They've helped me with previous tough cars to work on as well, I have friends who I have sent there who have come back nothing but satisfied with the work that they have done.

rJZx 05-12-2015 01:26 PM

I've heard people say bad things about them but never actually explain why...

the issue is a chip they bought for my car. It didn't work right. They took it out and have not made a real attempt in a year to fix it. They either can't fix it or don't know how. There is no other reason that in a year taking it back six times that they could not fix it. They never tell me either that they didn't do it till I go to pick it up. And I am talking about leaving it with them for weeks each time. This is not the only issue either but the most important.
