Another thing to think about is development costs. How much did it cost Sony and Microsoft to develop the new consoles. Steam just designed a controller and OS. The hardware is pretty much off the self.

Dear god I'm running out of space in my home theatre stand.

Xbox 360 x2
Xbox One
PS3
PS4
Cable
Receiver
Media Box

Now maybe even a steam machine? FML. LOL

I think if the specs are good and they have the blockbuster titles and some great exclusives it might do ok. Factoring in inflation people were paying easily 700+ for consoles of their time.

I have no need for steam machine but love this concept...if they go on kickstarter i'll pledge em.

if they can crowdsource ouya...this is definitely feasible without breaking the bank. You can get away with modest specs because most are gonna use this to stream and not trying to play demanding games rendered on the device itself
nvidia shield announced remote streaming couple months ago...it'd be nice if this can do that
