Furthermore, talking of speed cameras: The reason they were dumb is because of two reasons: #1 they were placed in places where the speed limit is too slow, and #2 they required a full time human being to man them. stupid on both counts. I DO support speed cameras, but only when the speed limits are FAIR.

Bullshit...absolute bullshit. No defensive driving, or skills that would help at all.

Plus my instructor was a dick, so wins all around.

Yep. Fortunately there is a new driving school in town which I am proud to be a part of, and it's run by Mercedes Benz. Completely raises the bar for driving schools.

That's right - just ask Carol Berner. Apparently now it wasn't all the wine that made her go off the road and kill a little girl feeding horses... it was the poorly-built speed bumps (that she hit at over 90km/h). :failed:

Ever since the story aired, I swear things have improved on Hwy1. Not by much, but I actually had some people move over for me the other day.

falcon 03-03-2013 05:43 PM

I ran into about 20 of them this weekend driving to Cultus and back. Seems no one watches the news. I got fingered a few times from passing on the right and honking as I go by.

Same thing happened to me, they saw me coming and changed lanes for me :fullofwin:

The media should bring this up every few weeks to really get the point across

A few nights ago on the highway.. someone kept spamming his high beams at cars in front of him/her on the left lane.. Must really be in a rush haha.

this is why i have HID high beams, no one moves for a small hatch, but when the interior of their car is bright yellow they generously move over :fullofwin:

Since we are on the topic of high beaming people, it is something I always do when the idiot in front of me forgot to turn on their headlights at night. It just bugs me to no end when I see cars like that, not to mention that they are a road hazard to other drivers.

I did that to a guy who didn't have his lights on.. flashed him a few times and he gave me the finger  I passed the guy and a minute later he finally turns on his lights

I would like to raise a question regarding the HOV lane.

Does HOV lane count as left lane? I sometimes travel with my family and baby in the car and driving in HOV lane. More often then not I get these tailgaters on the HOV lane.

This happens to me during semi-rush hour, or busy traffic. where the fast lane and right lane is moving along well, but with increased number of cars on both lanes.
Some drivers then decided the HOV is the new fast lane.

I want to know what you people think,, should HOV lane drivers move over for the these tailgating assholes.

EmperorIS 04-03-2013 03:47 PM

There should be a public announcement to educate and remind people.

I always see those kind of public announcement/reminders on tv and radios in Asia but rarely in North America unless its directly a governmental issue and not a societal one

No, I do not treat the HOV has the fast lane. The design of it is to get people who are carpooling to their destination faster than those who do not carpool. If i'm cheating along in the HOV i'm not gonna ride up the guys ass in front of me as he has "more" right to be there than me.

That being said, I absolutely hate when people still think the HOV lane is in effect on hwy 1 on the west side of the Port Mann after 7pm.

Why? More room for you if people are in the other lanes. (weekends too)

I was talking about people who aren't illegally in the HOV. The legal ones that speed to tailgate you, because they treat it as a fast lane.

TheKingdom2000 04-03-2013 05:18 PM

Did I miss something here? It didn't say anywhere in that video it was illegal to be in the fast lane. The escalator thing is just a courtesy, it isn't a law. The same is true about driving.

Now, is it fcuking annoying when there is someone in the "fast" lane holding up traffic? Yes. But, again this just means the driver is being an inconsiderate asshole.

Actually, it is the law:

Motor Vehicle Act

If you are driving in the left hand lane and you are driving at a speed less than normal speed of traffic at the time and place and under the conditions then existing, you must drive in the right hand lane. It is important to note that the words speed limit do not appear anywhere in the last sentence. If you are slower, move over. If you choose not to, you are at risk of being ticketed for failing to keep to the right.

I'm saying when it's 9pm and you get some family doing 80km/h in the HOV lane because they still think the HOV is in effect when in reality they should be in the right most lane.

Fuck em?

Soundy 04-03-2013 06:11 PM

The family of four puttering along in the fast lane blocking everyone up instead of being in the right lane OR HOV lane, is even worse.

fliptuner 04-03-2013 06:19 PM

If there's traffic and you're in the HOV lane, doing the limit, I say fuck em.

If there's not much traffic and the flow of traffic in the passing lane is faster than you're going, it's more dangerous for you to be in the HOV than in the slow lane. IMO, you should move over.

If all 3 lanes are open, it makes sense that the 2 left lanes are used for passing.

TBH, I'm just glad you're considerate enough to ask, since it means you're aware of your surroundings. I think the real problem with drivers in the GVRD is that they're clueless and inconsiderate. If more people were aware and knew wtf was going on around them and actually knew how the basic fuctions of their car worked (head/taillights), it'd be a lot easier to get around.

Gab, in that case, yeah, that's fucking annoying.
