BMO blocks cryptocurrency purchases on its credit, debit cards

Quote:
TORONTO - The Bank of Montreal has stopped allowing customers to use its credit cards to buy cryptocurrency such as bitcoin.

The bank says it no longer allows retail consumers to buy cryptocurrencies using Mastercard-branded credit or debit cards.

The bank's decision follows a move by TD Bank last month to stop allowing customers to use its credit cards to buy cryptocurrency.

TD said it made the decision to conduct a review and assessment of the evolving market.

The decisions follow moves by several U.S. banks to stop allowing credit card purchases of bitcoin and other cryptocurrencies.

The value of bitcoin soared last year, trading for more than $20,000 per bitcoin, but has since come off its all-time highs and now trades for less than $11,000.

Yep, I tried to use my BMO credit card and it doesn't work.

Maybe it is time to finally open another account...

In my case, I just had the BMO account since I moved to Canada 8 years ago, and I never really saw any valid reason to open another account at another bank.

This is making me reconsider, though. Just opening another account for the sake of cryptocurrency is a bit silly.

Worst case scenario, some websites allow you to use Flexepin to buy, which has a $16 fee for every $500(so 3% fee), but it's still a good workaround since Flexepin can technically be used for a lot of other stuff.

I understand the reason for banks to close all purchases made from their credit cards, because the credit is technically not your own money.

I do have an issue with how they're disallowing interac transactions when interac pay WITH MY OWN MONEY

Has anyone seen this "Bunny Token" pop up on YouTube ads?

Supposedly it's the cryptocurrency for porn... LOL

Doubt it's gonna take off. Lots of people are saying that's it's a Ponzi or a scam.

There is no support. Who wants to buy bitcoin right now? All the people that where bullish in bitcoin are now broke.
