Finally! Hwy 91 traffic lights at 72nd ave to be removed! ....can Anyone say "..about f**kin' time!" Interchange to replace last freeway traffic light in Delta | News1130 DELTA (NEWS1130) – A freeway traffic signal that has been causing lengthy backups for decades will soon be no more. The federal and provincial governments have committed tens of millions of dollars for a new interchange at Highway 91 and 72nd Avenue in Delta. Delta’s Chief Administrative Officer George Harvie says it has yet to pass through City Hall, but it’ll be welcomed. “The impact right now is intolerable and it has been for at least 10 years since I’ve worked in Delta,” he says. “It’s a major arterial on a residential street really. The majority of traffic heading to Highway 91 is from Surrey so it would be nice to alleviate traffic congestion for Delta residents that’s there now.” This project was supposed to go ahead in 2005 as part of a Border Infrastructure Plan but fell apart with concerns over design and cost. It’s unclear when the interchange will be finished, but it’s expected to accommodate all traffic movements. Highway 91 and the Alex Fraser Bridge were built in 1986. |
FINALLY! I don't drive through that part of Hwy 91 regularly but whenever I do I somehow always run into red lights and it's annoying as shit. |
About fuckin' time. :bowjerk: |
awesome, although I get off work by the time traffic dies down. still sucks to have to stop for few cars to turn left. |
I rarely drive that way but I actually like that traffic light because when you're the first car in line and the light turns green, you can step on the gas and accelerate WOT all the way up to 90/100 km/h without worry of getting any tickets. Not many places where you can do that in the city. |
I've been sitting in that traffic on my way to work for nearly 12 years. Good riddance. |
Thank fucking god, a stop light on a freeway.... |
it should have never been there... what idiots puts lights on highways or freeways... stupidity |
. |
so how long until they actually start working on it? |
10+ years |
I used to live out there and always hated that light. I think someone needs to look at Harris Rd/Lougheed Hwy in Pitt Meadows as well, last time I drove out that way I thought there must have been an accident but it was only the back up from the light. |
long overdue! guess they've finally seen the light on this one :troll: |
oh yeah the traffic on 72nd waiting to merge onto the freeway is intolerable during rush hours. |
As a driver who has to wait for the god damn light during rush hour every day..... PRAISE FUCKING JEBUS! |

finally!!! who ever put in that light in the first place is stupid and not building the overpass to begin with. I will be happen once its built... whenever that will be |
I've never been able to figure out why they built interchanges at 64th ave. and at HWY 10 but a stupid light at 72nd? Good to see they took their heads out of their arses, in this situation at least. |
It's not the same heads OR the same asses anymore... |
FINALLY! I wonder if they're ever going to be able to fix the traffic problem when going south onto the Alex Fraser too! |
I'm hoping that will reduce my commute time along the 91 by at least 40% :joy: |
It wasn't so bad when it opened in 1986... |
Finally! I was expecting to read about another Green lane. |
Only in Canada would you find a set of traffic lights on a highway. |
now that its going to be remove, how about reviewing the speed limit in some street. Speed limit such as the king george blvd right after you come across the patullo bridge from new West into Surrey was a turtling 50km... I've never seen anybody following that speed unless there is a police radar trap . Are the civil engineers that stupid.? |
