Recommend me a double din?? So I'm planning to do my audio this year. Just wondering what decks do you guys recommend. I'm looking for a double din. with BT built in, detachable face would be nice GOOD USB/ BT music play back as I mainly will be using this for music. so all the apple crap is useless for me cuz my Ipod got stolen when my car was broken into :okay: and I use android. reverse camera input good audio quality. GPS? I don't really need it but if its not too much more I might go for it. I've only had experience with JVC and Kenwood. and they were ok? JVC was kinda slow but had detachable face. Main thing that pissed me off was in USB mode every time you select a song it goes into the song menu. and when you go back to my music folder it starts at the top of the list and not where my last song was so I have to scroll down the whole list. I'm not sure if the newer models fixed this. Kenwood, screen crapped out on me and bt module did too. but besides that it wasn't bad. besides being a bit pricy. I don't know what I should get, there's some pretty cheap ones that's tempting me price wise from $300 Pioneer, Sony, JVC. and GPS ones seem to start at around $4-500ish. I can't justify paying over $1000 for a deck when they start at around $400-500ish. btw my car has some weird 5th channel oem speaker, in the middle of the dash so I'm not sure how that's gonna get hooked up. thanks!! :fullofwin: |
In for a general reply as well for brands and models to look for. |
If you don't need GPS why not go for a single din. If you are keeping your stock speakers look at a JBL MS 8 DSP. It's a digital processor with built in amplification. Will let you keep our center channel and make your system sound a lot better. http://ms8.jbl.com/ |
^^ can't cuz my oem deck is 2 din. and the din kit I ordered is double din too. and I'm not planning to keep oem speakers. sub is kinda blown, rattling. and oem system runs on like 8? or 16? ohms so everything is incompatible and has to be ripped out for aftermarket. |
Can't go wrong with the Pioneer Avic series. I have the Z110BT and it is a fantastic head unit that provides everything that you are looking for. The thing that I really like about them is how easy it is to do a software upgrade on them so even the older models (like mine) can easily be upgraded to the latest version of their software. Hope this helps. |
What kind of vehicle do you have? Posted via RS Mobile |
I had it in a VW Golf and am going to be putting it in a Kia Sorrento eventually. |
I've done a couple of these Clarion Canada | NX602 Overall great bang for the buck. Not detachable though. Should be about 700ish bucks |
hm... how are the new clarions compared to other brands? cuz I've had a really old clarion single din flip screen and the sound quality was pretty bad and the menu was super basic looking. I went to future shop today and the newer pioneer and sony seems to have a pretty nice looking interface but I didn't really play with them to look through everything. |

We have several Pioneer and Kenwood units in stock and of course we can give you the best pricing as you are a loyal Revscene member. |

Kenwoods and Pioneers definitely are the better units IMO. Clarion better bang for the dollar. |
Hope I am not highjacking but didn't think it warranted a new thread... Anybody have any info on this one? Pioneer FH-X700BT CD Receiver, 2DIN http://www.crutchfield.com/S-Zc4qj6u...FH-X700BT.html Seems feature-packed for a really REALLY affordable price. iPod/iPhone/Android control, Bluetooth. |
I can't speak for that specific deck but this year all the manufacturers have focussed on Android support (FINALLY!). Should be a good year for Android users. I know I'm happy. Kenwood is launching an Android based headunit this year too! Kenwood Excelon DNN990HD Navigation receiver with Wi-Fi at Crutchfield.com Looks pretty awesome. A few of the RS sponsors got to see and play with the pre production model last weekend. |

It's ok, not in the market for a new deck, just curious as to how good it is for such a low price for a double DIN. Thanks though. |
Lesson I learned when I bought my first double din: *MAKE SURE IT HAS GPS/NAVI NEXT TIME* At first I didn't really care for the the navi either so I cheaped out. But whenever you need it, you are going to regret you didn't spend an extra ~$100 for it. (especially in the states.) |
Good thing nowadays alot of the new headunits can link with your smart phone. Basically you use the navigation on the phone but view/control it on the headunit. Can be done with a few entry level dvd recievers. I know JVC makes one and is only $349 . I'm sure a few other brands do so also. |
Best thing I wave seen. duplicates everything that's on your phone onto your pioneer HU. Allows you to use the pioneer HU touch screen to control your phone. |
That HU looks sick, OE quality/design like. Unlike the many DDs with ugly plastic frames and way too many physical buttons |
anyone locally has the app radio in stock? Kinda want to demo it first. not really sure how it works. so it has gps built in? but you need to buy the cable to plug in your phone? so basically it only plays music off your phone? |

The iPhone 4 cable comes in the box. If you want the iPhone 5 cable, we have those too. It's an AM/FM double din deck that uses your iPhone for everything else (audio/video source). We are local. |
I have a Note 2. but I'm guessing Android is supported too? does it have usb mp3/video playback if I decide not to use my phone? also is there built in gps? or is that some how taken from the phone. |

It's supports droid. The video i posted shows the HU mirroring everything that's on the phone. |
Wow thats pretty awesome, no worries about the cellphone laws. Edit: Oh isn't native support and requires rooting. Still :notbad: though |
Not to jack the thread but I was thinking of doing this too but I feel that double dins are a bit laggy and at this time in age.. lag is something I despise. I was thinking of fitting a 7 inch tablet instead. |
