What is a good reliable 4 banger pickup that's good on gas?

Prefer older models cuz of price

TjAlmeida 06-26-2013 09:18 PM

Toyota 22re pickup late 80's, and some early 90's if you can find one.

imp>dom 06-26-2013 09:26 PM

looks good but it's for work, loading stuff. need something lower with 4 or 5 seats

kwy 06-26-2013 09:47 PM

cant go wrong with a tacoma. and i would never drive a ranger, but theyre good at what theyre designed for.

imp>dom 06-26-2013 09:50 PM

ya i do hear tacoma is a nice one but too rich for me haha

kwy 06-26-2013 09:56 PM

yeah, tacos and toyota trucks in general hold their value really well, but thats a testament to their quality. minus the rust issues.

TjAlmeida 06-26-2013 10:10 PM

I can not think of much that is a 4 seater, 4 cylinder, cheap, pickup, and reliable?

Sounds like you are searching for a Civic :troll:

old rangers fit the bill, or if you feel better about it, a mazda B series will also fit the bill.

nissan frontier, nissan hardbody, sonoma, S-10, 2013 ecoboost F-150(v6 though).... what do you want from this thread? really.

TjAlmeida 06-26-2013 10:12 PM

If it does not have to be a pickup maybe a 1st gen 4runner. Decent size back area, rear seats are fold able, and you can get it with a 22re in it.

BUT Do Not Touch One With A 3.0L V6.!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

4 runner cost too much, he wants toyota reliability at ford pricing

What's your budget? Pretty obvious thing to mention when you're ASKING FOR CAR SUGGESTIONS... :seriously:

imp>dom 06-26-2013 10:39 PM

3-5k? depending on condition. will pay for what it's worth

dinamix 06-26-2013 10:40 PM

4 cylinders + 4 seats (2 jump seats).. you are limited to Ranger. I think in general more seatings means V6 in general.

Toyota pickups are quite solid but insurance is insane.

88+ Nissan p/u ext cab w/ 2.4L, 93+ Mazda B2200/2600

And edit your OP to include a price and what you need it for. Next thing, you're going to want an automatic and 4x4, by the way it's going.

Our family had a super minty 1990 Toyota pickup, 2wd with the 22re. Took the four of us on multiple camping trips every year for my entire childhood. If you can find one, I'd seriously consider it. Just be careful as they often succumb to huge amounts of rust.

Honestly an older Ford Ranger is probably the best bet to fill all your requirements. I thought the Mazda B2200 came in a 4 seat config, though?

GabAlmighty 06-27-2013 09:37 AM

Old Toyota

sdubfid 06-27-2013 09:48 AM

89-93 2wd (low) 5spd cummins will get better mileage than 4cyl pickups and you can fix it with a shovel. There's actually one on craigslist with 950,000kms for $2000.

Timpo 06-27-2013 10:41 AM

does have to be 4 banger? what about 3 bangers and 2 bangers?
