and i don't want to generalize about all gas stations but a specific husky that i know of makes only around 2-3 cents per litre when the price is good. often they only make a cent or less or even at cost to compete with other stations. and they sell about 10,000 litres of gas per day so do the math. not a lot of money. they make more from cigarettes and soft drinks. but they DO make alot more money from propane and diesel. |
filled up today. $21 :troll: |
I find it hard to believe a gas station makes anywhere from $0-$300 a day on gas and stays in business... |

and price is different each time i guess. don't know all the specifics. and yes it's hard to believe that they dont make that much on gas alone but that's what they told me. |

I highly doubt any car manufacturer says that the car is required to have 94 octane, simply because most of the US doesn't get 94 octane fuel. The highest most places have is 91 and some states have 93. As far as I know, California has banned 93 octane and they only get 91 now. Most luxury and performance cars require "Premium" fuel, which is 91 and higher by NA standards. As far as optimal performance, if your car has a high compression engine and advanced timing, it won't run "fine" on 87. You may think it runs fine, but really your ECU is having to constantly dump fuel in order to compensate for detonation due to the low octane...thats why people say they get better fuel mileage with higher octane fuel... less detonation = less fuel dump. If your engine was designed to run on 87 octane, which means it's a low compression engine, then putting 91 or 94 into your car is just a waste of money. |
Gas is so expensive... but I can't let go of the V8 rumble just yet... |

you say that like i'm promoting it. all I'm saying is it's happened before, when the truckers refused to buy fuel and it did affect the gas companies. |
All i know is i'm mighty fucking tired of paying ~1.53/liter. HOWEVER, i think i'd get tired of the alternative awful quick... |

^ I don't have one, that was kind of the point. |

12.5:1 compression ratio. I do need 93+ octane or the engine will knock. |

with that said shell premium all day everyday, and trust me it costs me a fortune in a 4000lb fx. but as someone else said, you gotta pay to play |
bringing back old thread. ethanol is known to cause corrosion on engine because of the water it absorbs. i've been use chevron 94 for my accord which is regular unleaded fuel according to the manual. i'm gonna test the mileage difference vs 89 next fill up since i got the $20 petro gift card from shoppers. |
Wa? I think you are mixing up methanol and ethanol. And even if that were the case there is not enough ethanol content in the gas to damage internals. Moreover, why are so many tuned cars in the US running E85 successfully in the 400-1000 +whp (many of which are daily driven cars too). I'm still of the opinion that Canadian market Chevron 94 is shitty gas. Its knock resistance is lower than US market Chevron 92. |
ONLY RUN PREMIUM IF YOUR CAR SAYS TO! Your wasting money on your old accord by putting 94 in it. |
ok it's not $1.50+/L We've been talking about $2+/L for like 3 or 4 years now...and it's yet to happen. Vancouver Gas Prices - Find Cheap Gas Prices in British Columbia |

:yuno: Unless you guys can prove to me dealers tune cars based on region, I stand by the fact that there's no need to put anything more than 91. You are just wasting your money. |
gas spike my ass , my arse was ready. |
