Wonder what would happen if you hung up one of those fake nests that Canadian Tire sells. Wasps are territorial and the fake nest is supposed to keep them away. Maybe its only short term but fill one up with the wasp killing foam and see if they'll attack it. That would be fun to watch, but not as fun as how Acura604 does it.

Killer hornets sting at least 19 people to death in China - CNN.com

Hong Kong (CNN) -- At least 19 people have been stung to death by hornets -- which may include the world's largest hornet species Vespa mandarinia -- in China's central Shaanxi province in the last three months, according to the city government of Ankang, the apparent epicenter of a recent spate of fatalities and injuries.

A total of 583 people in the area have been stung by hornets since July 1, say city officials. Seventy victims are still recovering in hospitals.

Chen Changlin was hospitalized after being attacked by hornets, while harvesting rice last week.

"I ran and shouted for help, but the hornets chased me about 200 meters, and stung me for more than 3 minutes," he recounted to the state-run China Youth Daily.

Chen said hornets had first swarmed a woman and child working nearby, who then ran towards him. Both later died from the hornets' toxins.

"The more you run, the more they want to chase you," said another victim, whose kidneys were ravaged by the venom. When he was admitted to the hospital, his urine was the color of soy sauce, according to local reports.

Earlier this month, 30 people -- including 23 primary school children aged between six and eight years -- were injured in a hornet attack in Guangxi province, south of Shaanxi. Their teacher, Li Zhiqiang, told his students to hide under tables as he tried to drive away the insects before he lost consciousness. The school's headmaster told local media that most of the injured suffered stings to their heads, necks, hands and feet.

Nearly 60 students and teachers were injured in a separate incident in the province at the start of the month, according to state media.

Experts say a number of reasons may have contributed to the apparent increase in hornet activity, including the region's recent hot, dry weather, land development and hornet sensitivity to the smell of people.

The Asian killer hornet, which is suspected in these incidents, are formidable, carnivorous killers, according to the non-profit Honeybee Conservancy. The species feed their young with the larvae of other insects and use their talons and mandibles to sever the limbs and heads of their prey. The hornet's venom sting is a neurotoxin so powerful that it dissolves human tissue, according to the Guinness Book of World Records.

This week's latest incidents spurred the Ankang city government to hold an emergency video call addressing local concerns. Vice Mayor Lu Qi said he would increase investment in regional hornet control. Mayor Xu Qifang added the city would establish a 24-hour emergency hornet response team.

OP, that's a hornet's nest not a wasp's nest lol.... I would have loved to be there to destroy that thing.. I remember when I helped a buddy destroy a massive wasp hive in his garage... it was literally the size of a tire, in his shed. good times with hornet killer, brake cleaner, and multiple bug zappers hahahah.

but those things started rebuilding FAST! if they come up, let me know! I want in!

oh and those aren't honeycombs as only bees make honey.... .. those things are fucking pods that you will see larvae and the baby hornets

^ yep definitely a nest

If you can live with it until its winter, just take care of it then -- it doesn't make sense to fuck around with a wasp nest unless you have to. We bought a house in ~August and it had a ton of wasps and a wasp nest behind the front stone fascia. In November all I did was spray it down with some bug killer + seal all the entrances they were using to their nest with expanding foam

come at me wasps (not really tho, pls)

I have some of these fuckers starting to build in a pile of dirt in my yard if you can believe it, what's the best brand of foam to kill them? They seem to like any panel gaps in the cars too, I think I need to buy some of those fake nests.

And how the hell do they get so big before you guys notice them?

Fake nests usually don't work, I've noticed. Best proactive approach is to always keep an eye out during spring time for gaps in panels around the house and either seal them up or place fine wire mesh over it. Anything outside can be taken care of once the sun has gone down and they're usually sleeping.

As for cars, just keep driving them. If the vehicle constantly appear and disappear when they're attempting to build a nest, chances are they'll just start looking for a more suitable location.

I hate the ones that build nests in the dirt, though. Especially since if you're unaware of the nest and you go to mow the lawn... Got stung a ton of times last summer because of those damn underground nests.

A bit tricky when the car is broken, and there's only one of me to drive 3 cars haha.

I never knew about the underground shit until today. It's just a little pile of dirt left over from digging out for your patio. I go to finish up the patio today after taking a break for a few days and as soon as I started tapping the stone with a mallet the fuckers are everywhere. They calmed down pretty quickly though so I beat a hasty retreat.

If they're simply coming in through the panel gaps or grill, just use some painters tape to seal it up. If they're coming in through underneath, then you'll have to find another solution.

Does anyone know how to prevent them from re-making their nest in a dryer outlet? I don't want to have to do laundry every day... that shit gets expensive =/ I thought about clipping chicken wire to the outside, but not sure if they can still get through/dryer exhaust can get through

you guys might not believe this, but a few weeks ago in the richmond costco parking lot, there was an actual SWARM that was blown around in the wind. and when i mean swarm, i mean this.

Spoiler!

ive never seen it before, and they were only around for maybe 40-60 seconds before the gusts of wind blew them all away. i thought i was seeing things until my mom let out a scream, and i saw a shit tonne of other people sprinting to their cars.

pretty huge adrenaline rush to jump inside the protection of a corolla. too many stories of hikers or wtv being stung to death :P

Get some kind of mesh, not too fine or it'll clog up with lint. I thought dryer outlets came with mesh on them?

For whatever reason ours don't (the ones on the outside of the building). They're just plastic "hoods". I'll check home depot on the weekend.
