Advocates for sensible road safety laws SENSE BC - Safety by Education Not Speed Enforcement Can one of the mods embed the video Done -Lomac |
not gunna do shit, if companies like icbc are raking in the cash and the government is getting portions of it there is no way they will just let it go.. |
Great video! Thanks for sharing |

Semi related article that was a week ago and I'm surprised nobody posted anything on it. Ministry eyes increase for speed limits on B.C. highways | CTV British Columbia News Quote:
New transportation minister believes highway speeds are too low and should be raised. Christy Clark supports the move. |
Great Video with some awesome points. I have a hard time believing the government will act on the demands of the motoring public, they are just making too much money off the current setup. Its worth emailing your local rep though! |
I'm sold! I know the secton in surrey just off the patullo, if gets painfully awkward to do 50kph and feels unsafe to do so. Am I supposed to hit the brakes to do 50? Nanny state bullshit. Free country my ass. |
The highway going thru Nanaimo goes from 80 to 70 to 60 to 50 in about 8 KM's. it's ridiculous. |
Really impressed that someone put that great vid together. Completely agree with all of it. |

The road they are talking about on the Island goes to Campbell River. It's 4 lanes divided straight for many long parts and is never busy (almost seems like waste to build it) and no one goes 110KM. I see jacked up pickup trucks 130 140 plus. |
Hell even the the road from pacific hwy to golden ears bridge is ridiculous. And what gridlock said about the section after the pattullo bridge, I usually drive past and see 3-4 cop vehicles watching for anyone to go over |
They are there basically everyday 11-3 Posted via RS Mobile |
I think not only the speed limit should be raise, but also in force those who drives on left lane at 30 40 kmh in a 60 zone kmh (ticket them!) |

You know everyone here should do, just to really show them who's boss?? Drive the speed limit. Don't text while driving. Don't drink and drive. Signal all your turns. Don't put stupid shit on your car. Then their revenue stream will dry up. That'll show them! Money-grubbing fuckers. |

that's just easy money for government. |

funny how this is almost a conspiracy theory, as to why they don't raise limits... because there's money involved, fuelling some agencies. yet other conspiracy theories are refuted immediately, even though there's about... a whole earths worth of money backing those up. ya know, just something i noticed... if you follow the money... and the money is the main incentive... logically, the same reasons for oppression and control should be applied right? ?RIGHT??? RIGHT?~!?!?!?! I've been eating slices of CiC's brain. and it tastes quite rationally paranoid. if they raise the limits that would be nice. but any ... ANY accident, will be plastered and promoted by the anti-speed people. and the media will blow it out of control. logic is not the way to win people's hearts. |

So what your saying is.. we need to make a giant smear campaign on how driving slow will ultimately get you killed.. :considered: I can see it now: "If you drive too slow, that semi-truck will plow into you, completely destroying your car and everything in it." Make the people afraid to drive too slow? |

First, we all...wait, we ALL get that we tend to run a little higher on the nanny state bullshit in BC. There is nothing we like more as a group of people of giving the stage over to the people that like to tell the rest of us how to live better. I don't even think of it as the money grab, I think the entire culture of car safety here from socialist ICBC(love it) to the police to politicians view it as the only way these poor, misguided fools will learn. Look at that one police officer in the video..."90% of these people are speeding!" Yes...and notice how they aren't flying off the road. I don't think its the money, I think they have as a mission of getting everyone to granny it down a highway at 50kph. They'll park at the end of Patullo not because they want the money, but because Patullo is a "dangerous bridge" and they want people to slow down. But let's use some common sense...its not the guy that's doing 60kph on the bridge that's the issue...its the douche that's doing 80, its the guy that's hogging two lanes, its the truck traffic that hogs the entire bridge or causes someone to try to pass when its unsafe and for realz, its the guy doing 58 that hits the brakes when he sees the police setup because he doesn't want the ticket. And do we see the police set up at 9pm looking for the guy doing 80? Nope. And the true irony is that if the speed limit is 50, then really you "should" be doing 40 so as to not go over. Your commute to work is now going to be 2 hours longer. Yay! Add a straight up 10kph to every limit in the city, with a discretionary 10kph buffer after that. |

This is a prime example, and it goes right along with those whining about things like excessive speed penalties. Regardless of whether or not the speed limits make sense (and let's get it out of the way right now: yes, I agree, they could stand to be raised in a lot of cases - happy now?), the fact remains, YOU KNOW WHAT THE LIMIT IS, YOU KNOW WHAT THE PENALTIES ARE FOR EXCEEDING IT, AND THUS YOU HAVE NO ROOM TO COMPLAIN IF YOU GET CAUGHT. It's not a "cash grab" when avoiding the hit to the pocket book is as simple as letting up JUST A LITTLE on the gas pedal. Get a fucking grip, people. It's not a difficult choice: risk the fine, or suffer the horrible ignominy of having to arrive at your destination 30 seconds later. It's not like your entire world will fall apart by following the posted limit. IT'S NOT THE END OF THE WORLD. |

tolls, gasoline, the very attitude that the car is the source of all evil and possibly being punished for driving with the flow of traffic In general: Nanny state bullshit where some politician is deciding whats best for you. |
